HE WILL NOT...

Hebrews 13:5b-6 (Amplified)....and be satisfied with your present (circumstances and with what you have); FOR he (God) Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support.  (I will) not, (I will) not, (I will) not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let (you) down (relax My hold on you)!  (Assuredly not!)

So we take comfort and are encouraged and confidently and boldly say, The Lord is my Helper; I will not be seized with alarm (I will not fear or dread or be terrified).  What can man do to me?:

WOW!  That is the CURE for any fear or doubt.  God said, "I WILL NOT let you down!

Prayer Focus

Your prayers are treasures! If you would like to pray for us, the prayer focus this month is for God's favor and direction to rent a separate office and ministry space. We are currently using my apartment and a gym. Also, for God to draw people to volunteer.
The Power of a Mentor

Every young person needs a mentor. In some cases, the mother or father will serve as the positive role model in their life. But, in many cases children and teens do not have this vital relationship. We see this with the children and teens in the neighborhood we minister in. Many of them have mothers who have raised them, but because they are single, they carry a huge weight and often don't give the nurturing care that young people need. Or if the mother is on drugs or drinks a lot, the mother is present in body, but not with her emotions. And the majority of the young people do not have a father in their life.

Because of these situations, our kids are growing up without positive role models in their lives, as orphans so to speak. The majority of role models our kids are surrounded by, are either
emotionally disconnected, intoxicated, abusive or running the streets.
They desperately need mentors.

Even though we cannot individually mentor all of them, as we volunteer during the Friday Night Teen Program, we play that role as mentors in those few hours we are with them. It is our goal as we simply spend time with them that they would begin to have a different view of adults. That they would feel love from an adult and eventually grow to trust us.

Definition of a Mentor:

 A trusted counselor
 or guide

It has been five years since we started the Teen Program.  Over these five years, I believe we have been building a foundation of trust.  Trust takes time to build and is essential when it comes to mentoring.

Out of all the young people who come to the Teen Program, we have had the privilege of individually mentoring a few of them. Below are some stories of these relationships that are being cultivated with their mentors;

Mentor: Rachel Buttig
Teens: Jewel and Tawana

***Jewel said to me, "I was thinking about having you as the godmother of my baby." I was honored! I asked the girls, "Do you know what it means to be a godparent?" Jewel said, "It means that person teaches you and your child lots of things about God." How cute!

***The girls and I have had a few conversations about marriage and waiting until your married to have sex. It's hard for them to understand the concept of being with one person for the rest of their life, because they haven't grown up seeing people get married. But, I believe these conversations are planting seeds of the truth in their hearts to eventually see relationships the way God sees them.

Mentor Continued...

***I took them to Borders because I wanted to use the Five Love Languages Book to have the girls take the test. This has helped me in knowing how to show them love in the language they receive it.

***I usually take them out to eat and on the way home, we pray together. One day, I asked the girls to pray for each other instead of me praying for them. Tawana was very shy about praying and didn't know what to pray at first. She eventually prayed and it was such a sweet and genuine prayer.

Mentor: Trevor Tullie
Teens: Cedric and Bruce

***During the Teen Program, Cedric pulled me aside and said he needed prayer. He said he was worried that his girlfriend was pregnant. I was able to minister to him about fulfilling God's plan for his life and how sexual purity plays a role in that. We prayed and a couple weeks later he found out his girlfriend wasn't pregnant. He was one of the first young men I met when getting involved with the teens, so I feel like we have a special connection. However, up until this incident, I didn't realize how much God had grown our relationship. For him to initiate such a personal prayer request, totally blew me away!

***Bruce is one of the bright examples of teens who are preparing themselves to be contributing members of society. At school he is enrolled in an auto hobby class, which students actually get to do hands-on training, working on cars. It is really awesome to hear the excitement in his voice when he talks about what he's been learning in class. He was talking to me the other day about fixing a radiator on a car....I said jokingly, "Hey, when are you going to start fixing my car?"

***I had the opportunity to talk to Bruce and Cedric about how they feel about violence in their community. They said it's not really something they get used to, and it forces them to constantly be aware of what is going on around them. The boys mentioned that it motivates them to work hard to make a better life for themselves, so they can get out of that environment. I pray that God continues to use me and other Christian adults to show them that God has so much more for them than the negative things they often see in their community.

Do you have someone in your life who needs a mentor?

If so, begin asking God how you can pour into their life and be that spiritual mother or father to them. If you don't have a lot of time but there is someone on your heart, you can pray for them regularly. Someone once told me, "Prayer is the best gift you can give someone."

Partnership

It is so valuable to have heart linked partners! Thank you for taking this ministry as your own and pouring your love, prayer and finances into it. As you partner with us, I am praying for your finances. Partners have shared testimonies of how God has blessed their finances as a result of giving to this ministry. If you have seen blessing in your finances as a result, please email your testimonies to me. I would LOVE to hear them!

It is my desire to have 30 monthly partners who will support me and this ministry. Currently, we have approximately 20 partners who send monthly support. All donations are tax deductible and go towards the cost of running the ministry as well as my salary. Pray about partnering with us. If God is prompting you to become a partner, these are the ways you can give;
