Rachel Buttig- Director
This morning as I prayer walked around the neighborhood, I was stopped by a young mother. She wanted to show me a picture she had just taken of her little one. He was dressed up like a lion for Halloween. She was so proud and smiling from ear to ear. As I continued to walk on, I realized, this is one of the reasons God has me here. To simply experience life with the precious people who live around me.

A few minutes ago, I went outside to stand on my back porch, sometimes I just need to step away from the desk work part of this ministry. Standing on my back porch is one of my favorite things to do, because most days, I can look a few feet away and see a prayer  opportunity right in front of me. Today in front of me were the "tough guys" and without them knowing, I interceded for them, that God would soften their hearts. I love them.

A term of endearment

Yesterday, Rich walked up to me holding the baby of the guy who I visit in jail. Rich is his best friend. I asked if he thought the baby would let me hold him.  He said, "He better, you visit his daddy in jail." Then he said these words that I will treasure forever, "Here baby, go to your Ti Ti." In case there are a few of you who may not know what this term of endearment means, it means "aunt." These words came at the perfect time, and ministered to my heart.
Into Their Inner Circle
How?

I was recently approached by the brother of one of the guys who I serve hamburgers to on Wednesdays. The brother recently got out of prison after being there for 10 years. And when he got back and saw that the guys were open to me, he couldn't believe it. He asked me why I was living here in the projects and how I got an open door into the lives of the people here. Then he said these words that have kept me going all month, "I was so surprised to see these guys, who I have known for a long time, letting you, a Caucasian into their inner circle." When he left that day, he had no idea how much he encouraged me.
Quality Time
9  Teenagers

As we wait for the gym's repairs from the break in to be finished, we are currently  having the Teen Ministry in my apartment. The last time we met, we had a pizza party and game night. The kids had a blast! My apartment is VERY small, so we squeezed in 14 of us like sardines. I haven't ever seen these teens as excited and hyper as they were that night. One of the toughest teen girls in JDS opened up and told me, "I would rather be here than at home, it's so boring there." It was so nice to just have fun with them and hear lots of laughs.
A Call From Jail
I'm really scared...

My neighbor handed me her cordless phone and her 18 year old daughter was on the other end. She was calling from a St. Louis jail where she has been for a year now. I was shocked that she wanted to talk to me. Before she went to jail, she wouldn't have given me the time of day. With a shaky voice, she said, "I'm really scared. My trial is tomorrow, will you pray for me?" I told her when she goes to trial, the best thing she can do is be honest, no matter what. And in doing this, it would open the door for God to be her Defender and Lawyer. She accepted what I said and we prayed together.
Encouragement for You
This verse has been ministering to me over the past few days and I pray that it soaks into your heart...

2 Corinthians 9:8 (NIV)
And God is able (and willing) to make ALL grace ABOUND to you, so that in ALL things at ALL times, having ALL you need, you will ABOUND in EVERY good work.
