Rachel Buttig- Director

Dear Precious Partners,

This month, God has given me many sweet opportunities to minister to people, listen to them, serve them, or just be a friend to them. These were the two encounters with people that were among my favorite adventures. I pray that these stories minister to you and encourage you.

A Safe Place
"God is a safe place to hide, ready to help when we need Him." Psalm 46:1 (The Message)

My heart's desire is that kids begin seeing me and my apartment as a safe place to come to. A safe place to come for advice, a hug or encouragement. The other day I got to see what a glimpse of this may look like.

Last Wednesday, I was prayer walking and saw two girls walking to school that I have a good relationship with. To make a long story short, one of them, who is 14 years old told me that she needed to talk after school.

She came by and poured her heart out about everything that was going on in her life and she didn't leave one detail out. She was very honest. On the outside you wouldn't be able to tell what kind of pain she is going through, but in reality she was hurting deeply.

She shared how she has repetitively thought about suicide. She has been questioning if God was real and just wanted to see change in her life. Because of her honesty, I was able to encourage her with scripture and practical things she could do to stir HOPE in her heart.

We prayed over every area that she was concerned about. I could feel God taking care of each thing as we brought it to Him together.

About 2 months ago, she shared with me about something she had been struggling with for about two years. I gave her some advice about it and prayed over her. When she stopped by the other day, she told me that she no longer struggled with that issue any more. THANK YOU JESUS!
Like Little Birds

Rachel Buttig- DirectorEach Wednesday that I make hamburgers for the guys (ages 18-25), their walls seem to be coming down a little bit at a time. Each week, the distance between my apartment and their group keeps getting shorter and shorter, literally. This is the progression I have seen, and they are quite fun to watch;

4 months ago- Guys wouldn't come near my door.
3 months ago- Reminded them each week, hardly any guys came by.
2 months ago- Had a regular group who ate each week, but I went to them.
1 month ago- Guys began asking to be put on the hamburger list ahead of time.
2 weeks ago- They sat closer to my apartment than usual when eating their hamburgers
1 week ago- They came to my door to double check about the hamburgers, one ate his burger on my porch and the others stood closer to my porch than ever before.
Today- One of them felt comfortable enough to ask me for my Kool-Aid recipe. How fun!

Slowly they are feeling more comfortable with me and I with them. My prayer is that they will eventually be willing to come to my apartment for a weekly Bible Study. As they slowly move closer to my apartment, they remind me of little birds, flocking to where the food is.
