FESTIVAL OF THE TREES

Festival of the Trees is one of YMCA's largest fundraising CHristmas Tree events of the year. The festival inspires attendees to "deck their homes" with unique holiday decorating and gift-giving ideas. The community's generosity during this event ensures the vitality of our Strong Communities Campaign. This year's goal is to raise $20,600 for the campaign, which funds the Y's Guardian Scholarship Program.

Friday, December 6, 6-9pm - Lighting of the Trees Party. Tickets are $50 per person, and may be purchased electronically or at the Y. This fun-filled event includes:

  • "Tastes of the Northern Neck" with heavy hors d'oevres & beverages from local restaurants & caterers.
  • Live auction featuring elaborate gift items donated by local artists, chefs, businesses and community groups, with Auctioneer Steve Gordon.
  • The evening concludes with the grand illumination of the Festival of the Trees featuring decorated trees, wreaths and other holiday items that are up for bid during a weekend-long silent auction.

Saturday December 7, 9am- 5pm - Open House, come tour our winter wonderland, listen to local musicians, and participate in our silent auction.

Sunday December 8, 11am-2pm - Open House, come listen to local musicians and choirs and participate in the closing of the silent auction. Refreshments are provided.

YOUTH BASKETBALL

Registration starts December 9 for Youth Super Sports Basketball at the YMCA.  Youth will be grouped in separate divisions by ages: 4-5, 6-8, 9-11 and 12-14.  The cost is $55 for members and $70 for others.  Practices will start for most teams the week of January 6th and the season concludes on March 8th.  Games are primarily held on Saturdays in the Y gymnasium.  All divisions, ages 6 and older, will include some travel games.

Youth Super Sports Basketball emphasizes the basic skills of basketball, teaches the rules of the game, and of course, focuses on our core character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.  Team sizes are designed so everyone receives lots of playing time.  Volunteer coaches are needed for the season to be a success.  Reversible jerseys and shorts will be provided to each participant.
