PLEASE TELL US
At the Y, we value you as a member and count on you to help us serve you and our community. On October 29you received an email inviting you to participate in our survey. If you have not already done so, please take a moment to respond now. It only takes a minute and we really value your comments and time, so when you participate, you'll be entered into a drawing for a free month of membership dues. We hope you'll tell us how we're doing - "good" or "not so good," we need to know!

TRX SUSPENSION TRAINING COMING SOON

TRX Suspension Training was born in the Navy SEALs. Suspension Training body-weight exercise develops strength, balance, flexibility and core stability simultaneously. It leverages gravity and your body-weight to perform hundreds of exercises. You're in control of how much you want to challenge yourself on each exercise - because you can simply adjust your body position to add or decrease resistance. We are excited to add it to our class offerings. Stay tuned, class days and times TBA.
NEW EXCITING CLASSES

C3 - Mondays 6:45-7:30PM

A blend of circuit training, cardio and core for a total body workout.

Fitness Boot Camp - Wednesdays 6-7AM
A fitness boot camp is type class that mixes traditional callisthenic and body weight exercises with interval training and strength training. While there are a variety of styles, most are designed in a way that pushes the participants harder than they'd push themselves and, in that way, resemble a military boot camp.

One HIIT Wonder - Saturdays 8:30-9AM - ONLY in November!
Cardio training in which you alternate short, very high intensity intervals with longer, slower intervals to recover in a 2:1 ratio. HIIT has been shown to benefit the average exerciser. HIIT training not only helps performance, it also improves the ability of the muscles to burn fat.

Vinyasa Flow Yoga - Tuesdays 6:30PM
A fluid, athletic style of yoga that cultivates a conscious breath flow while increasing strength, flexibility, balance and joy.  This level-2 class is built around Sun Salutations A and B and is suitable for ongoing students looking to move and sweat.

YMCA WELCOMES NEW WELLNESS TEAM MEMBERS

NANCY GRIFFIN - Nancy teaches C3, Fitness Bootcamp, Tabata, and is a Personal Trainer.  Nancy has been a DC resident for the past 20 years. She, her husband, and her 3 children recently moved to the Northern Neck to join the YMCA family.  Before becoming the Health & Well-being Director at the YMCA, she completed Graduate studies in Exercise Science and Health Promotion at California University of PA.

CHRIS ALLEN - Chris volunteers as a Group Cycling and Boot Camp Instructor. Chris has lived locally in the Northern Neck since 2000. He currently resides in Kilmarnock with his wife and daughter and is a Major for the Virginia Department of Corrections. Chris has had a lifelong interest in fitness and exercise. While attending college at WVU, he worked as a Personal Trainer, and competed

in Bodybuilding. In 2011,Chris co-founded a group named Team Lockdown that competes in different adventure races. Their next major race for the Team will be the Naylor's Beach Triathlon Sprint in June 2014.

MARK RAMOS - Mark is a Personal Trainer. Exercise is a key part of Mark's life now, but it hasn't always been that way. At age 16, he weighed 180 pounds and did no physical activity. It was then that he decided to start exercising. Within a year's time he lost 60 pounds and was feeling better about himself. From then on, he never looked back. Mark has now earned his personal training certification through ACE (Academic Council on Exercise.) Mark is excited to help others achieve the personal wellness goals.

SUSAN JOHNSON - Susan teaches Vinyasa Flow Yoga. A student of yoga since 1999, Susan completed a 200 hr. teacher training program in 2008 at Yoga Source in Richmond, VA. In 2010, Susan began teaching locally and opened InsideOut Yoga. She lives in Irvington with her husband and their three children.

FESTIVAL OF THE TREES

For 16 years, the Festival of the Trees has been the highlight of the holiday season in the Northern Neck. This three-day extravaganza will be held December 6-8 at the Northern Neck Family YMCA. With more than 500 patrons attending the weekend-long affair, this is one of YMCA's largest fundraising events of the year. The Festival inspires attendees to "deck their homes" with unique holiday decorating and gift-giving ideas. The community's generosity during this event ensures the vitality of our Strong Communities Campaign. This year's goal is to raise $20,600 for the campaign, which funds the Y's Guardian Scholarship Program. This important program helps the Y fulfill its mission to provide a wide range of programs and activities for children and families within our local community who could not otherwise afford them.

Lighting of the Trees Party - Friday, December 6, at the Northern Neck Family YMCA from 6-9p.m. This fun-filled event includes:

  • "Tastes of the Northern Neck" with heavy hors d'oeuvres & beverages from local restaurants & caterers.
  • Live auction featuring elaborate gift items donated by local artists, chefs, businesses and community groups, with Auctioneer Steve Gordon.
  • The evening concludes with the grand illumination of the Festival of the Trees featuring decorated trees, wreaths and other holiday items that are up for bid during a weekend-long silent auction.

Tickets are $50 per person, and may be purchased electronically or at the Y. This year, if you RSVP to the Lighting of the Trees party before November 22nd you will receive a $50 Gift Certificate to Burke's Fine Jewelers!
