| SECOND GRADE SWIM LESSONS | | On November 2nd, the Northern Neck Family YMCA wrapped up another season of 2nd grade swim lessons. The daily swim lessons, are provided for each 2nd grade child in the Lancaster County Public School System. This is the 6th year that the Y has provided these lessons and this year 76 students participated in the program!
The kids learned basic swimming skills as well as safety skills such as boating, CPR and rescue breathing. This year we had 4 instructors and 1 volunteer who are all Water Safety Instructor certified through the American Red Cross. The instructors are Jim Evans, Jean Poole, Donna Funkhouser, Dave Cunningham, and Lisa Shivers. Karen Jackson and Frank Miller are members of the YMCA Masters Swim Team, they also volunteered their time each day to assist with the lessons.
The Y is led and run by volunteers. To find out how you can make a difference, contact Donna McGrath at donna.mcgrath@peninsulaymca.org or 435-0223. |
