A decade ago, I travelled to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center with my friend and colleague Mary Bryant McCourt to introduce Achilles and handcycling to recently wounded servicemen and women. Mary corresponded with various staff for three months to get permission, and finally, in February 2004, we were welcomed into the center.

New York City Chapter News
|
 Thirty NYC chapter athletes with the support of forty guides completed 13.1 miles through Manhattan for the NYC Half Marathon. Starting at 6:30 a.m., happy, neon-clad Achilles athletes and guides met at the 59th Street baggage trucks and after a couple of high-fives made their way into the Central Park corrals to make Achilles history.  US Chapter News in Brief: Achilles-Colorado is regularly getting over 40 people to attend its Monday workouts in Denver's Washington Park. Achilles Boston Strong had lots of weather to contend with, yet smiles trump the rain. Special thanks to Aviva Pruzinsky and Joey Covino for their service in co-directing the chapter's efforts; Achilles-Nashville athlete Joe Shaw and guide Becky Sharpe ran through the hot coal pit. Joe was the first blind athlete in Tennessee to complete the Warrior Dash; Several chapters kicked-off 2014 with a trip to Florida for the Walt Disney World Marathon weekend. Achilles fielded one of our largest teams in Los Angeles to date this spring, thanks to the extremely welcoming folks at the LA Marathon offices. Race Director Nick Curl has always shown a strong vision of inclusion at his race. All athletes are welcome and encouraged to persevere through those 26.2 miles and cross that finish line safely. We absolutely love the race and the energy is superb for the Achilles athletes. Along with staying at the historic Millennium Biltmore hotel for the weekend, we are hosted and supported by the amazing Los Angeles Fire Department. Read more...

Achilles Kids - Kids Korner

Achilles Kids have been busy running, walking, and rolling in the Jewish Community Center and in Central Park. Our JCC crew has enjoyed celebrating Valentine's Day, Thanksgiving, and of course our love of dance alongisde our dedicated volunteers. With an eye towards the Hope & Possibility 5-Mile Race in June, our littlest runners are training in Central Park to build up their mileage and improve their speed-all while spending time with friends!
