Marathon and Beyond Midcap
null Where in the U.S. is M&B?

It's been a busy year for M&B as we've traveled all over the country to attend expos and run races on both road and trails. We started our year "on the road" in Baton Rouge at the Louisiana Marathon, followed by the Napa Valley Marathon in California, Illinois Marathon in Champaign, Flying Pig in Ohio, and Grandma's Marathon in Minnesota. Our year "on the trail" began in Idaho with the Pickled Feet Endurance Runs, followed by the Mickelson Trail Marathon in South Dakota, Finger Lakes 50 in New York, and the HURL Elkhorn in Montana. This past weekend, we went back down south to the Mark Twain Endurance Runs in Missouri. We have seen so many of our friends around the country, and we still have a few adventures left this year. Come and see us at the Chicago Marathon and Columbus Marathon expos in October.

Between the Lines:

Jeff Horowitz Helps At-Risk Youth

Go "Beyond" to Set and Achieve Goals

In our September/October issue of Marathon & Beyond, Jeff Horowitz helps us calculate marathon recovery time in his article, "How Soon Can I Race Again?" Jeff is an experienced runner, coach, and author. But he goes "beyond" in his role as program advisor for Teens Run DC, a non-profit organization that empowers at-risk youth to envision and work towards the achievement of personal goals through a youth mentoring and distance running program.

As a runner, Jeff has raced in more than 170 marathons and ultras across the United States and around the world, from Antarctica to Africa and Asia. Formerly a practicing attorney, he is an endurance-sport coach and trainer. He also teaches running at George Washington University. As a program advisor for Teens Run DC, Jeff uses running as a tool to help at-risk youth set and achieve goals not just in running, but in life. Prairie Spirit Trail "Fall Classic" 50 Mile and 50K
October 26, 2013

Ottawa, Kansas

The inaugural Prairie Spirit Trail "Fall Classic" 50-mile and 50K Ultra Races will be held Saturday, October 26th, in Ottawa, Kansas, on the beautiful Prairie Spirit Trail - the only rails-to-trails in the entire Kansas State Parks system. Immerse yourself in the spectacularly beautiful and diverse fall foliage of the rural countryside of eastern Kansas at the peak of their vibrant color change. The trail meanders north and south across open grassy prairies, through thick timber, and under the shadow of Kansas' signature grain elevators that are located in nearly every small farming community. The trail is wide enough that runners can easily run four abreast, making it ideal for those social runners who enjoy chatting while running.

Taking place on a finely crushed limestone path with negligible elevation loss or gain, the Prairie Spirit Trail Fall Classic course is easy on the body, and the perfect race for both road runners looking for their first finish beyond a marathon and grizzled ultra-vets looking to set a new 50K or 50-mile PR.  Additionally, permanent mile markers and easy crew access make this an outstanding venue for your first (or 100th) ultramarathon. For full details, click here to check out the Prairie Spirit Trail Fall Classic website.

The Prairie Spirit Trail Fall Classic is an Epic Ultras event. The mission of Epic Ultras is to organize, manage, facilitate, and deliver the highest quality ultrarunning events in the world. Our vision is to create an environment that strongly encourages runners of all ability levels to discover, nurture, and maintain their own personal greatness and "Be Epic."  Founded in 2012 by long time ultrarunner and ultra race director, Eric Steele, (Leadville Trail 100 and Badwater to Mt. Whitney Summit finisher). Find out more at: http://EpicUltras.com.
