 "Lowly, and yet Chosen"
Barque of Peter
"Sea of Galilee" by Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn -
Jesus sleeps in the stern of the Boat depicted in Matthew's Gospel Story (8:23-26)

We are humbled to learn the identity of the new successor to Peter, our Pope Francis.

"Lowly, and yet Chosen", was the episcopal motto of Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, elected by his fellow Cardinals and now known as Pope Francis.

He is identified as being neither conservative nor liberal. He is Catholic.

We can speculate as to why he has chosen the name of Francis.  And certainly there is one very provoking answer....
Another humble Francis was once given the command "Francis, rebuild my Church."  This new Francis has surely been given this similar command.

Our prayers are joined with the entire Church on this historic day. We ask Our Lady Star of the Sea and her Son to guide Pope Francis as he navigates the Barque of Peter.

And we continue to pray for Pope Emeritus Benedict, who has prayerfully led us to this day, and continues to commit his life to prayer for the future of the Church.

Habemus Papam!
