Quotes of the Week

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea.

~ Psalm 46:1-2 (NRSV)

The Chinese use two brush strokes to write the word 'crisis.' One brush stroke stands for danger; the other for opportunity. In a crisis, be aware of the danger - but recognize the opportunity.

- John F. Kennedy

Christmas in July - Donations Requested to Benefit the Cherokee County Rainbow Room

In its continuing quest to find ways to give back to the community, the Cherokeean Herald is partnering with Chili's Bar and Grill restaurant in Jacksonville and the Jacksonville Daily Progress to sponsor the Cherokee County Rainbow Room's Christmas in July donation drive.

Cherokeean subscribers and other Rusk residents are urged to stop by the paper's office at 140 N. Main St. in Rusk, and pick up an empty Chili's to-go bag. Each bag will have a list of items the Rainbow Room is continuously in need of. Fill your Chili's bag with items from the list and bring the filled bags back to the newspaper's office. The newspaper will collect bags of items throughout the month of July. At the end of July, drive organizers will present all collected items to the Rainbow Room.

Citizens encouraged to pick up a bag, fill it

Collection sites have been established in Rusk and Jacksonville for concerned citizens to pick up a Chili sack and fill it with items to be given to children being removed from an abusive or neglectful situation. This particular drive will provide a Christmas in July for the Rainbow Room and CPS case workers using the facility.

Bags will also be available at the Cherokee County Child and Family Services office, 1037 SE Loop 456 in Jacksonville; and at the Jacksonville Daily Progress office, 525 E Commerce, Jacksonville. Jacksonville residents may drop donations off at both locations as well.

The Child and Family Welfare Board asks to please only donate new items, to help these children make a brand new start.
