CCRFL Annual Relay Event Entertainment Line Up - 4/25/14 & 4/26/14

 

Please join Cynthia Kline, volunteers and area team members for the Cherokee County Relay for Life Annual Relay Event.  Festivities will be starting at 6:00 PM on Friday, April 25, 2014 at Mauldin Field on the campus of Jacksonville High School.

 

"Everyone is a HERO in the Fight Against Cancer!"

 

2014 Cherokee County Relay for Life Entertainment Line-up

April 25 - 26

 

6:00 PM - The Jacks n Jills Square Dancers will kick off the pre-relay entertainment during registration. They will be performing in front of the main survivor/caregiver seating area.

 

6:30 PM- JHS Drum line continues the pre-relay entertainment. They will also be participating in the opening laps.

 

7:00 PM - Opening Ceremonies

P.O. Ford will be serving as the Master of Ceremonies for the night

Katie Kinsey, cancer survivor, will be singing the National Anthem

Greg Jones, cancer survivor, will lead the opening prayer.

All kids (and even those young at heart) are invited to dress in Super Hero costumes for the opening laps

 

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND - The Al Fine Little Big Band!!!!!!!

 

After opening ceremonies, The Al Fine Little Big Band from Tyler will be taking the stage to get the night's festivities off to a fun, high paced jazzy start.

 

Following the Al Fine Little Big Band, we will have a Karate Exhibition led by black belt holder David Thomason.

 

The ever- popular country singer, Ben Duffy, will take us to the Luminaria ceremony which begins at 9:30 PM. Walkers also watch for special performances by National award winners - T's Tumblers!

 

Jacksonville's beloved singer/songwriter Dr. Sam Smith and "In His Image" praise dance group will be performing during this special time honoring cancer survivors and remembering those that lost their courageous fight against cancer. The Luminaria is a beautiful ceremony which brings the night's focus back to the real reason for Relay for Life.

 

The Cherokee Cloggers, Lykins family and Sam Smith, followed by Ian Chandler will round out the pre-midnight entertainment.

 

Midnight - Fight Back ceremony followed by something new this year - "Midnight Bingo and Lattes"

 

ZUMBA! Brittany LaPrairie will help get everyone re-energized for the 2nd half of Relay with a high energy Zumba session.

 

Early Morning entertainment will include Withrow/Cooley, Tiffani Watkins, Lindy Lykins, Logan Strong and lots of fun activities.

 

Breakfast will be served onsite.

 

If you get up early - come watch the sunrise on HOPE and a future without cancer! For those of you who like to exercise in the morning or go for early walks - come take your laps around the track and join us for closing ceremonies!

 

Closing ceremonies begin at 6:30 AM.

 

So, come early and plan to stay the night - napping allowed (but you may miss out on some of the fun)!

Texas State Railroad Rail Fan Photographer's Special - 5/3/14

 

Join the staff of the Texas State Railroad for the upcoming Rail Fan Photographer's to be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 9:00am - 5:00pm, departing the Palestine Depot!

 

Railfans will have the opportunity to photograph a TSRR engine at several locations along the track. Please wear close-toed shoes as you will encounter rough and rural terrain in some locations. Coffee, juice and pastries will be served on board along with drinks throughout the day. Lunch is included and will consist of a ½ lb smoked turkey or BBQ chopped beef sandwich, chip and beverage.

 

Tickets: $85 ages 13 and older

Exercise Your Right To Vote - Early Voting for RISD School Board Election starts 4/28/14

The May 10, 2014 election for Rusk ISD Board Members is right around the corner and you can vote early starting April 28, 2014 - May 6, 2014.  This right has been defended by our military and citizens should not ever take this privilege lightly.  Learn the issues, the candidate's stands and then make your choice for the person and issues you feel that will best represent you.

Lake Columbia Update - 12:00 Noon on 4/28/14

 

Cherokee County individuals interested in the status of Lake Columbia will hear an update from Angelina/Neches River Authority general manager Kelly Holcomb during a luncheon held at noon Monday, April 28 at the Norman Activity Center, 526 E. Commerce in Jacksonville.

 

Lake Columbia - previously known as Lake Eastex - has been in some form of planning since the 1980s. If the project is completed, the lake will be located in the Mud Creek floodplain, approximately 10 miles northeast of Jacksonville, primarily in Cherokee County, with the northern limits of the lake extending into Smith County.

 

There are currently 18 entities with a stake in Lake Columbia, encompassing 63 percent. The Texas Water Development Board owns 37 percent of the project.

 

Tickets for the luncheon are $12 per person for Jacksonville Chamber members and $15 per person for non-Chamber members. The cost includes a meal catered by Traditions.

 

The deadline to make reservations and payment is today, April 25.

Cherokee Civic Theater Presents "The Dixie Swim Club" 5/9 - 5/11, 5/17 & 5/18

 

Production dates are: May 9, 10, 11, 17 & 18 at the historic Cherokee Civic Theatre, 157 W. 5th Street in Rusk.

 

All Show Times are 7:30pm, Except for the Sunday Matinee, 5/11, which will be held at 2:00pm

 

Tickets will go on sale Monday 4/28/14

 

The play is written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, authors of the "Dearly" series presented at CCT the past two seasons.

 

"The Dixie Swim Club" is a hilarious and touching comedy about the lasting friendships of five Southern women, whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team.  The ladies set aside on weekend in August to recharge their friendship, and meddle in each other's lives.  The story spans thirty three years, and focuses on four weekends that the quintet spends together.
