MICRA Ballot Initiative Update

Proponents of the ballot initiative that would increase the current cap on non-economic damages for $250,000 to $1 Million had submitted over 800,000 signatures for review to attempt to qualify for the November ballot. That approval has been granted and it will be placed on the November ballot. A specific number has not yet been assigned and that will occur in July.

The CSP is part of the coalition that will oppose that initiative and we encourage your groups, staffs and patients to join that opposition. Californian's Allied for Patient Protection is an organization representing a diverse group of providers, insurers, hospitals and other facilities that are opposed to MICRA changes. You can join the opposition campaign and contribute to their efforts by going to their website at www.stophigherhealthcarecosts.
