Most antihistamines and some tricyclic andepressants belong to a class of drugs known as anticholinergic.  These drugs block the neurotransmitter known as acetylcholine in the brain, and are used to treat asthma, depression, incontinence, gastrointestinal cramps, muscle spasms, overactive bladder and sleep disorders.

A study cited in the March 2015 issue of JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) regarding this class of drugs concluded that 23.2% of the participants developed dementia and of those, 637 developed Alzheimers.  I don't know about you, but I don't want to be in that 23%!

Acetylcholine production declines with aging.  Studies in other peer-reviewed medical journals going back at least thirty years, show that severe depletion of this important chemical messenger causes Alzheimers.

Some indicators for low acetylcholine production are:

• poor working memory
• elevated cholesterol
• elevated homocysteine
• gallstone formation
• estrogen metabolism
• fat cravings
• insomnia
• depression
• poor coordination
• poor motivation
