Low Testosterone?

Read this for you or a loved one's protection.

You've heard all the recent radio adds for Low-T, low testosterone in men.  While I believe those adds have done a good thing in bringing awareness to a real and significant issue of low testosterone in men, these adds can also do a great injustice.

This newsletter will speak to the issue of testosterone and men, although balanced levels of testosterone in women are just as important.  The following symptoms can be reflective of low testosterone in men:

  • low muscle mass or inability to develop lean muscle
  • low sex drive
  • hair loss
  • decrease in bone mass
  • inability to burn fat
  • lack of motivation
  • foggy brain
  • depression, irritability
  • lack of focus and concentration
  • erectile dysfunction

Here is the great injustice & potential danger:

Men are getting testosterone injections/pills/creams many without benefit of testing baseline levels.  Any one or more of the symptoms listed above can be reflective of not only low testosterone levels, but also low neurotransmitter levels (such as serotonin or dopamine), or low adrenal cortisol and DHEA levels.  It is imperative to test levels of all these critical messenger signals in the body to create balance and prior to willy-nilly testosterone protocols..

In the hormonal cascade pathway, testosterone converts to dihydrotestosterone in one direction and estradiol in another direction, and back to androstenidione (its own precursor).  Research has shown that increased estrogen (estradiol) in men can cause prostate cancer.

Even men with low testosterone can have excessive levels of estradiol which resides in fat cells (adipose tissue) of both men and women.  So, in addition to checking levels of Free Testosterone you must also check levels of Estradiol, for your own protection and prevention.
