Six Principles to Weight Loss Management

 

When making a decision and a commitment to dietary modification and lifestyle changes, think of creative ways to accomplish your goals, to deal with temptation, and to form new habits.  

 

The following six principles are not stages or steps, nor are they listed in order of importance.  Just as you are a uniquely biochemical individual, you possess  a unique personality created and reinforced by genetics, experience, environment and spiritual relationships.  These principles are intertwined and can occur simultaneously as required by our personalities. 

 

Some principles require a preceding principle for support.   For instance, the Creativity principle suggests that you seek new ways to solve the emotional issues of hurt, anger, rejection and frustration with something other than food.  In this case, the preceding support principle is patience.  Patience is required to be considered worthy of healing from those emotional issues, and with this self worth comes creativity. 

 

 1.  Patience - Old habits are hard to break.  Be as patient with yourself as you would be with a child learning a new skill.

 

 2.  Persistence - Determine in your mind and heart that, no matter how you feel, you will continue on this journey called health.

 

3.  Commitment - You realize your need to change and you make the decision to do it.

 

4.  Discipline - Realize you are in control of food rather than food controlling you. 

 

5.  Creativity - Write down new ways to solve problems.

 

6.  Planning - Realize your full potential.  Map the road you'll take.  Have someone help keep you accountable.
