Drugs That Don't Work: A Tough Pill to Swallow
A string of startling findings about some of the nation's best selling drugs has many pondering the good these drugs are meant to provide. In less than a year, patients have learned that Avandia, a popular diabetes drug may raise the risk of heart attack, and that antidepressants, the most widely prescribed drugs in America, may work no better than placebo. While Avastin, a breast cancer treatment drug, slowed the disease, it didn't impact overall survival. And now Vytorin and Zetia, which account for more than 15 percent of the cholesterol-lowering drug market in the U.S., and more than $5 billion (yes, I said BILLION for just these two drugs) in annual sales, have failed to slow the buildup of artery-clogging plaque.
No only do these drugs interact negatively with one another, but just as importantly they deplete vital nutrients needed by the body every day. Vital nutrient depletion then sets up a whole string of new symptoms for which the pharmaceutical industry makes another drug. We must take responsibility for our own health!
The client of mine was prescribed Coumadin (among other cardiac medications). He was then prescribed Bactrim for a skin outbreak, which he stopped taking after the first dose due to overwhelming fatigue. He read the contraindications of the drug which said not to take if taking Coumadin. Thank our wonderful God that he took responsibility for his own health. My philosophy and patient protocols for the last fifteen years have been to get to the root cause of these issues rather than put a bandage on the symptoms.
A short list of other side effects of drug interactions or nutrient depletion:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Heart irregularities
- Stroke
- Body aches, pains
- Heaviness in legs
- Parkinsons/Alzheimers
- Headaches/Migraines
- Osteoporosis/Osteopenia
