Osteoporosis Drug Fosamax Linked to Heart Problem,
Study Suggests (Science Daily)
Women who have used Fosamax are nearly twice as likely to develop the most common kind of chronically irregular heart beat (atrial fibriliation) than are those who have never used it, according to research from Group Health and the University of Washington. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/04/080428162542.htm
Additionally, in January of this year, the FDA warned physicians that bisphosphonate therapy (such as Actonel, Fosamax, Boniva, Skelid, and the new injectables, Aredia, Reclast and Zometa) is linked to a risk of severe musculoskeletal pain. Eli Lilly, founder of the giant pharmaceutical, once said that a drug without toxic effects is no drug at all. Read the book by Robert S. Mendelsohn, MD, "Confessions of a Medical Heretic".
What are some causes of osteoporosis:
- Inability to unload stress
- Heavy metal toxicity (cadmium and lead especially
- Lack of proper enzyme function
- Unbalanced minerals such as sodium, potassium, magnesium
- Lack of hydrochloric acid in the stomach
- Poor adrenal function
- Malabsorption in small intestine
- High oxidation rate
- Poor diet
While I believe that bone loss or bone thinning should not be overlooked, I also believe that being proactive and preventive are of critical importance. All of the above causes can be fixed with nutritional intervention which allows the body to rejuvenate and/or heal at the cellular level. Bone scan results data use reference ranges which compare the bones of a 65 year-old woman to those of a 20 year-old woman. What kind of sense does that make? I'll need to do more investigation, but I would bet that drug companies have an investment in the million dollar diagnostic machines. Just a thought! |
