Tile Restoration Center
Steve Moon Vancouver, Washington
|
The Tile Restoration Center has long been a leading producer of American Arts & Crafts-style ceramic tiles. Their goal is to capture both the imagery and the spirit of the classic Craftsman aesthetic, where each installation is an integral part of a home's design.
TRC recreates and hand-produces dozens of Arts & Crafts images inspired by well-known tilemakers such as Batchelder and Claycraft, as well as many new designs that build on that rich history.

Craftsman Fireplace with Custom Arch
|
This Craftsman fireplace is featured on Houzz along with other period fireplaces created with TRC's historically accurate reproduction tiles. The focal point is a 28" x 4" reindeer frieze across the surround. Other horizontal images available include ginkgo, peacock, pinecone as well as thistle and bird.
|
Conestoga Wagon Tile, 8" x 16"
|
By making complementary field and trim tiles in both standard and custom shapes, they are able to produce installations that blend naturally with the surrounding designs. Their overall goal is to make new tile that projects a timeless quality, blending seamlessly with original tiles that are over 80 years old.
Owner Steve Moon is well-versed with the problems of repairing older installations and integrating the solutions. In this interview from Arts & Crafts Homes magazine, June 2012, Steve goes through the steps involved, making the process easier for homeowners.

In addition to making historic reproduction tiles for more than 20 years, Steve Moon is also making a more modern line of tiles under the name Monkey Works, Inc. These designs are centered on playful and captivating geometries, combined with subtle textured glazes. The Monkey Works website is currently in production, expected to be done before the holiday season. Whether modern or old school tile is on your mind and in your plans, you'll want to contact the Tile Restoration Center to see their options.
