Handmade Tile Association Newsletter

March
2015

Our 16th Year

The goal of most associations is to collaborate, to help everyone advance through the pooling of resources. In the coming months, this association will be working on articles for our newsletter, including experiences that you, the members, are willing to share. At the same time, we are interested in hearing the questions that you want answered.

Below are a list of

Carving a mold, by Lilywork Tile

topics we're hoping to explore.  We need to hear from you about your experiences with any of these items.  We would love to publish images to illustrate each topic, making it even clearer to our readership. You will be credited along with a link to your website and/or social media, as well.

Please contact Josh with any questions. Please note: we need your submissions by the 25th of each month to be considered.

1. Making molds for tiles: How to make a tile mold or stamp.

2. Types of tools tile makers use: extruders, rollers, knives, rolling pins, needle tools, molds, specialty items, etc.

3. How to install handmade tile: We are looking for problem-solving ways to set handmade tile to best effect.

4. Different types of hanging devices for tiles: holes, wire, attaching wood, hooks, etc.

5. To mesh or not to mesh: Discuss tape, mesh, paper and plastic. What has worked best for you?

6. Shipping methods: Have you discovered a shipping method
that has helped keep your costs under control? Tell us your experience (or ask us questions).

Spec's for articles:
*Under 400 words. *Pictures tell the story. (Many people don't read, so photos become as important as words.)

Getting your work on Houzz
As artists, one of our favorite words is FREE.  You are in luck with the website Houzz. They offer a free website of your work!  We at HTA believe that Houzz is the best deal out there for our members to take part in. Their website is a plethora of home improvement projects, though many are pretty bland. Images of handmade tile would help change that! All it takes to participate are some high quality photographs of your projects and products.
As a follow up on last month's topic of how to get better images of your work, Houzz is offering to link you up with a photographer. Rates start as low as $200 for 8 daylight photos of your work. The Houzz Photographer Network is an easy and affordable way to upgrade your portfolio and get professional photographs of your work at the same time.
