Our 15th Year

Believe it or not, it is time to get ready to create the 2015 issue of the Handmade Tile Association Directory. This will be our 16th annual directory. The directory has been a major promotional force in creating awareness of tile artists and makers around the country. We have heard of many success stories of artists making connections with tile seekers. But don't take our word for it! Below is a testimonial from Joe Taylor, of the Tile Heritage Foundation.

Being artists, we are forever seeking ways to promote ourselves and to interest others in our work. To reach and convince potential buyers is an ongoing challenge. The annual directory of the Handmade Tile Association serves as an ideal promotional tool for tile and mosaic artists to present their artwork in full color beyond their studios, showrooms and galleries to an increasingly national audience of architects and designers, those who specify materials for both commercial and residential use. The concentration of ceramic, glass and mosaic art in the HTA Directory makes it a primary choice for those seeking inspiration and a specific product to choose. The fact that it's free and distributed nationally with consistency every year has established the HTA Directory as a most reliable and invaluable resource and guide. Most importantly, the directory provides a means for us to invest in ourselves. What we can't do alone, as a group through the far reach of the HTA, we can do together!

Tile Heritage Foundation chooses HTA member to join their board

Josh Blanc, of Clay Squared to Infinity & founder of The Handmade Tile Association, (Minneapolis MN) has joined the Tile Heritage Foundation Board of Directors. Josh was invited to join the THF board earlier in the summer. When he asked why they had singled him out and extended the invitation they said:
"All of our current board members appreciate your fundamental nature of sharing and desiring to share information and ideas. You already have a core understanding of the mission of THF: protecting historic tiles and history as well as a rooted sense of place and validation for contemporary tiles. You live and breath that with your own studio work and your tireless work with the HTA. In addition, you have a great sense of humor, an essential attribute in this world of too much 'seriousness!' You get things done, you are relaxed, you understand and use social media and you are simpatico with others. You represent all of the things an organization like Tile Heritage would want in a board member."
Tile Heritage Foundation currently has a board of five active members. Josh takes the seat of Irene de Watteville, a long time board member (16 years) who has retired. Irene will remain as a Board Member Emeritus (non-voting.) We are most grateful for her long service, exceptional, continued financial support and deep interest in the Foundation's Archiving project into the future. Josh joins Riley Doty, Katia McGuirk, Joseph Taylor & Sheila Menzies as active board members of the Tile Heritage Foundation.
Sincerely,

Josh Blanc
