FCPS Teacher Workdays

FROM THE DIRECTOR
November is that time when retailers of decor and food and greeting card manufacturers remind us of giving thanks.  Even then we never do enough.  In Chapel this month the children will give thanks to God for homes, clothing,
families, friends and school.
I also give thanks for the shining faces of our children as they walk in the door each morning.  Thank you for trusting us to share in their growth and development.
I am very grateful for parents who gave time and effort to hold the annual yard sale which benefits our Scholarship Fund.  I am in awe of the skill shown in putting on this sale so effectively.
Thanks to parents who came to learn the Conscious Discipline language we speak and the skills we are practicing to help your chldren grow emotionally and socially.   Please continue to journey with us.

FALL FESTIVAL WAS GREAT!
Thanks to Parent Help
The Parents Group did a great job of arranging volunteers so that the event was a fun time for all. Volunteers came early in the morning and set up. They ran all the events and then did an amazing job of cleaning up.
FLU SHOTS
Has your child been vaccinated?
CDC, Center for Disease Control recommends that all children aged 6 months up to their 19th birthday get a flu vaccine.  Make arrangements with your pediatrician today.  Also parents of young children are considered at high risk for flu, so check with your physician as well.
In addition to the flu shots, your next line of defense is always HANDWASHING.  Never skimp on the soap or the sudsing time!

LABEL YOUR CHILDREN"S CLOTHING!
 lost sweaterPreschool can help!
Here is a teacher at the end of car line saying, "The jacket has no name written in it; we don't know whose it is."   You know how it goes this time of year.  The early morning is very chilly and you get a jacket for your child.  By noon, the sun is shining brightly and that jacket is no longer needed. So we end up with jackets, mittens, hats, sweaters left at school.  Sadly, only a few have children's names in them.

Help us help you keep track of your child's clothing and earn funds for the school by purchasing high-quality labels from Mabel's Labels. Simply choose our school from the drop down list and place your order. So easy!

The labels are: durable, inexpensive, easy to apply, dishwasher, microwave and laundry safe, and not just for clothing (shoes, lunch boxes, school bags, thermos bottles, and so much more!), and delivery is fast too! Labels ship 24 hours after order is placed.

Help all those beautiful clothes find their way home!

I LOVE YOU RITUAL THIS MONTH

A Wonderful Woman Who Lived in a Shoe

Give your child's hands a massage.

A wonderful woman lived in a shoe

Touch each finger on one hand. She had so many children

Touch fingers on the other hand She knew exactly what to do.

Fold child's fingers into a fist and hold with both your hands

She held them,

Rock the hand you are holding She rocked them,

Press child's hand to their chest And tucked them in bed

Hug I love you, I love you, is what she said.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IT SNOWS
Read Here and in Your Parent Handbook
  • If Fairfax County Public Schools are closed due to bad weather, the preschool will also be closed.
  • If Fairfax County Public Schools are to observe a late opening, preschool classes will begin 2 hours late and close 1 hour later than usual. Lunch Bunch will end at 2:15.
  • In the event of an early closing by Fairfax County Public Schools, Add-on Lunch Bunch will be canceled.

Listen to the news, look at Chanel 21, or check www.fcps.edu to see if Fairfax County Public Schools are changing their schedule.   Go to www.fcps.edu and sign up for Keep in Touch in order to receive e-mails or text messages about school closures and schedule changes.

Do's and Don'ts

  • Do keep this information handy. There may not be anyone in the Preschool office to answer the phone.
  • Do remember that this information is on the school website if you forget. See www.ucpreston.org.
  • Do sign up for Keep in Touch with FCPS.  That way you know when schools are closed or opening late.
  • Don't pay attention to what Fairfax County announces about preschool classes.  Those announcements refer to the preschools inside Fairfax County elementary schools, not our Preschool.
