UK Recap + Music & Food

We did two shows in the UK. I think UK fans are some of the greatest in the world. I just want to thank them for the support they have given us over the many years. You guys really know to make a band feel good.

One of the downfalls of being a traveling musicians... you never get to see all of the beautiful countries you visit. People envy musicians because they travel around the world. Yes, we do, but we never get to sight-see the places we travel because we don’t have the time. Very seldom do we get the chance stay in a place two or three days. The view I can tell you about is the airports. I have watched airports go from a few terminals to a city. But I also remember when traveling was pleasure. Now it is a hassle! You almost hate to travel. The security thing doesn’t bother me that much but it’s the workout you get when you travel. If you’re not in good physical shape... you’re in trouble. God forbid if you have a connecting flight! London Heathrow (LHR) will give you one of the best workouts you ever had! Maybe they planned it that way after sitting on the plane for seven hours in knots. You’ll stand in a passport line for one hour once you have worked out. Make sure when you travel to have your best walking shoes on. Some of airports that give you the best workouts are Barcelona, Spain, Germany, Washington DC (Dulles), Ft Worth, Texas and don’t forget about Atlanta, GA. There are many more, but these are the marathons.

The weather was great while we were there, but I didn’t get a chance to visit my late-hour Chinese restaurant, The Mayflower. And my favorite Indian restaurant over by the Jazz Café... I never did know the name but I love their food. London is the crossroads of the world. You’ll find some of the best authentic ethnic food. there is such a diverse of music. One thing I did notice, live music is making a comeback, but not like it was before. Now it’s more like each little ethnic culture group is catering to their own music. That’s happening a lot now! I first noticed it in the India culture. They’re creating their own brand of hip hop. And with the Koreans, this has been going on. But now what is happening, they are not waiting on American music to find the next trend per-se. They are creating and supporting their own. And as old saying goes: “Charity begins at home and God bless the child that has his own.”

Before signing off, can anyone tell me how food has stolen the spotlight from music? There was a time when conversation around the water cooler was about music, the last great concert you attended or the hottest album just released. But now it’s the about the newest restaurant in town or have you tasted this or that? Chefs have become the newest celebrities. What we need to do is to have a music and food festivals. I bet you that would pack a stadium... Jazz and Barbecue, Funk and Chitterlings festival. Now that’s funky! I know what you’re saying... "This is nothing new, Bill." But the way I’m thinking about doing it is different. Go ahead, have your laugh!!! I still say food is more popular than music!!
