NACCHO's HIV/STI Prevention "Tool or Model Practice of the Week"
 This week's featured tool from the HIV/STI Toolkit is the STD Program Adaptation and Partner Engagement Resource Kit, which was developed by NACCHO. The resource kit includes examples from five local health departments (LHDs) that have adapted their STD programs and worked with community partners in order to meet local STD prevention and control needs. For each LHD STD program model, a summary of the program is provided, along with tools, resources, and lessons learned.The information provided in the Resource Kit can be modified to fit the needs of individual LHDs and communities. |
NACCHO Local Health Department of the Year Award
NACCHO is pleased to introduce the new Local Health Department (LHD) of the Year Award to recognize and honor outstanding accomplishment of LHDs across the country for their innovation, creativity, and impact on communities. The award will be presented at the 2013 Grand Award Ceremony during the 2013 NACCHO Annual Conference in Dallas on July 11. NACCHO will accept applications April 1 through May 31. Webcast: NPIN Gaming and Mobile for Public Health
The National Prevention Information Network (NPIN) will be hosting the third webcast in their series titled In the Know: Social Media for Public Health, which discusses the world of social media and its relevance to public health. Each webcast in the series focuses on a popular social media channel and includes tips and tools for appropriately integrating social media into public health communication strategies. CDC FOA Deadline Extended: STD Surveillance Network (SSuN)
The CDC Division of STD Prevention (DSTDP) has extended the deadline for the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) #PS13-1306 to support new activities of the STD Surveillance Network through May 14. This fully competitive opportunity will support "Centers of Excellence for STD Surveillance" through collaborative projects between eligible state, county, city or tribal health departments and DSTDP. The goal of this FOA is to modernize STD surveillance through enhanced and sentinel surveillance activities addressing issues of national, state, and local importance such as use of existing and emerging health information technologies. 2013 U.S. Conference on AIDS
The 2013 United States Conference on AIDS (USCA), will take place September 8-11 at the Hyatt Regency, in New Orleans, LA. The USCA brings together workers from all fronts of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, including local public health workers, advocates, and policy makers, to build on national support networks, exchange information with peers, and learn new tools to take back to communities.
