NACCHO's HIV/STI Prevention "Tool or Model Practice of the Week"
toolbox
This week's featured tool from the HIV/STI Toolkit is the Protocol for Use of Social Media for Case Investigations, developed by the Spokane Regional Health District Disease Prevention and Response Division. This tool provides guidance on the use of social media profiles to contact original patients and/or notify partners of possible exposure to HIV, STDs, and other communicable diseases/infections.
Request for Proposals: Contract to Conduct Client Surveys at STD Clinics
STD Surveillance Reports, 2007 NACCHO invites qualified agencies, institutions, organizations, and individuals to submit proposals to conduct a clinic-based survey of clients accessing healthcare at local health department (LHD) STD clinics. The funder, CDC's Division of STD Prevention (DSTDP), will develop the survey questions and select 20 clinic sites in large urban jurisdictions in the United States. The selected clinics will provide a diverse demographic and geographic sample of jurisdictions with a high burden of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and/or syphilis. To learn more, follow these links for the background and scope of work. For the application instructions and form, click here. Applications are due April 1, 2013 by 5:00 PM EDT.
Applications for Advisory Groups Now Open
NACCHO will soon begin making committee and workgroup appointments for the 2013-2014 term. NACCHO encourages health officials and other local health department staff to consider offering their expertise in order to ensure the best possible products and services for our membership. For details, including information about NACCHO committees and workgroups that are currently seeking participants and a link to the online application, please click here.
HRSA HIV/AIDS Bureau Releases Preliminary Data on the Continuum of HIV Care among Ryan White Clients at CROI 2013
New data shows that the majority of patients receiving medical care funded by the Federal Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program have higher rates of retention, ART prescription, and viral load suppression compared to CDC's nationwide estimates of the continuum of care for all people living with HIV. The continuum of engagement in HIV care is an important framework for understanding the status of HIV care and treatment in the United States. The Health Resources and Services Administration's (HRSA) HIV/AIDS Bureau presented the data on the continuum of HIV care in the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program at the 20th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI). Read more about the findings presented here.
Public Comment on Draft Research Plan: Screening for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia
computer02 The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force released its draft Research Plan on screening for gonorrhea and chlamydia. The draft Research Plan is available for review and public comment through April 3, 2013. To review the draft Research Plan and submit comments, click here.
Using The ACA to Improve Access to HIV Prevention, Care, and Treatment for Women: Fact Sheet
The National Alliance of State & Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD) released a fact sheet this month titled, "Health Reform Fact Sheet: Improving Access to HIV Prevention, Care, and Treatment for Women." NASTAD highlighted five top ACA provisions that will have the most significant impact on women living with and at risk for HIV: 1) medicaid expansion; 2) integration of reproductive health and HIV care and treatment in Medicaid; 3) private insurance expansion; 4) essential health benefits coverage; and 5) community health center investments. Read the entire the fact sheet here.
