NACCHO's HIV/STI Prevention "Tool or Model Practice of the Week"

This week's featured tools from the HIV/STI Toolkit are Syphilis Awareness Social Marketing Tools, developed by the Jefferson County Health Department in Alabama. These tools include photos of social marketing materials that were developed to raise awareness of a syphilis epidemic in Jefferson County.

CDC NCHHSTP 2012 Annual Report and Strategic Priorities Dashboard
The CDC's National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP) recently published two reports on the Center's strategic priorities and achievements. The Strategic Priorities Dashboard summarizes progress on  indicators that monitor the implementation of activities aligned with the goals of NCHHSTP's strategic plan for 2010-2015. The NCHHSTP Annual Report 2012 details accomplishments and successes for 2012, including recommendations that call for one-time routine hepatitis C testing of all Americans born from 1945 to 1965, new guidelines for treatment of gonorrhea, a new Spanish language TB Web site, the release of the 2011 Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance summary, and the launch of a new anti-stigma campaign, Let's Stop HIV Together.

The Real World of STD Prevention
The Real World of STD Prevention is a collaborative effort between the Journal of Sexually Transmitted Diseases and STD Prevention Online that identifies articles that address the science-program interface. Articles featured in this publication will be of specific interest to STD clinical and prevention practitioners, including clinicians, disease intervention specialists, prevention workers, program administrators, and those involved with training the STD prevention workforce. The first installment of the Real World of STD Prevention features articles addressing the pros and cons of streamlining STD clinic operations by offering testing-only "express" visits. Webinar on Innovative Use of Surveillance Data for Nontraditional Purposes to End the HIV Epidemic
hiv red ribbonOn Wednesday, January 16 from 2:00-3:00 PM EDT, the National Minority AIDS Council will host a webinar titled "Innovative Use of Surveillance Data for Nontraditional Purposes to End the HIV Epidemic." The webinar will feature Amanda Castel, MD, MPH, AAHIVS from the School of Public Health and Health Sciences at George Washington University. Click here to register.

Webinar on Navigating Young Women's Health Care
2 womenOn January 17 from 2:00-3:00 PM EDT, the Center for Strengthening Youth Prevention Paradigms is hosting a webinar on navigating young women's health care. The webinar will include a presentation by Susan LaVaccare, Director of the Center for Young Women at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Ms. LaVaccare will discuss data from focus groups conducted by the Center for Young Women that explore the experiences and opinions of young women regarding health and well-being. This webinar will include recommendations for providers and agencies to improve health services for young lesbians and bisexual women. To register, click here.

Health Datapalooza IV Call for Presentation Submissions and Judges
 
The submission portal for individuals and organizations interested in participating in the 2013 Health Datapalooza IV is now open. Health Datapalooza is a conference that brings together government health data owners, state and local health data enthusiasts, and international health data policymakers. The deadline for submission of materials for consideration to be a speaker or an exhibitor is April 5, 2013. To learn more about the conference and submit a presentation proposal, click here.
