NACCHO's HIV/STI Prevention "Tool or Model Practice of the Week"

This week's featured Model Practice from the NACCHO Model Practices Database is
Comprehensive Approach to Prevention, Testing, and Treatment of Sexually-Transmitted Infections and HIV within a Local Health Department, developed by the Hennepin County Health Department. This Model Practice describes the Red Door Clinic's efforts to integrate reproductive health and disease services for clients in metropolitan Minneapolis.

NACCHO Annual Call for Sharing Session Proposals

The NACCHO Annual Conference Workgroup seeks sharing session proposals for the NACCHO Annual 2013 Conference, set for July 10-12, in Dallas, TX. This year's theme "Public Health by the Numbers. Our Story. Our Time. Our Future." will help attendees discover how to address preventing the leading causes of death, examine the effective use of data across all operational aspects of a public health agency, and discover how to maximize organizational performance, influence policy, and maintain fiscal sustainability. Archived NACCHO Webinar: High-Impact HIV Prevention and LHDs

NACCHO recently hosted a webinar on high-impact HIV prevention and local health departments (LHDs). The webinar provided an overview of the core components of CDC's High-Impact HIV Prevention approach to reducing HIV infections in the United States and the presenters discussed its implications for LHDs. The presenters were Patricia Coury-Doniger, Director, Center for Health & Behavioral Training, University of Rochester and Gale Burstein, Commissioner, Erie County Department of Health, Buffalo, NY. Following the presentation, there was open discussion of LHD experiences with high-impact HIV prevention, as well as time for questions. This session provided an important opportunity for LHDs to learn from one another. To access the archived webinar, click here.

CSTE HIV Surveillance Training Manual Now Available
The Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) recently released an HIV Surveillance Training Manual, which is intended to serve as a reference guide for new and existing HIV surveillance staff to learn the basics of HIV infection, HIV surveillance, and other components of HIV programs. USPSTF Invites Public Comment on Draft Recommendations Related to HIV and HCV Screening 

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recently issued draft recommendations pertaining to HIV and viral hepatitis screening and invites public comment on both. To learn more about what is included in the draft recommendations and how to submit comments online, click here. The deadline for submitting comment on the draft HIV screening recommendations is December 17 and the deadline for draft HCV recommendations is December 24

CDC Continuing Education Modules about Hepatitis C

In alignment with recent recommendations about hepatitis C screening, CDC has developed a number of continuing education modules for clinicans about hepatitis C. To access these materials, click here.
