Adopt a Shelter Dog Month
In celebration of Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, we'd love to adopt out as many dogs as we can this October! To make your decision easier, we are lowering the cost of adopting dogs 25 pounds and more to just $40 every Friday in October. This offer excludes Legacy Pets and applicable licensing fees.
If you've been considering getting a dog, we urge you to change a life and adopt a shelter dog. Each adoption provides a pet with an opportunity to experience love and care in a forever home. It also allows the Kentucky Humane Society to open its doors to still more dogs in need.

The Waiting Game
Waiting. That's something Peyton did a lot in the more than six months he was at the Kentucky Humane Society. The six-year-old cat came to the Kentucky Humane Society in March when the only family he had ever lived with had to move. At KHS, Peyton liked to hang out with his favorite staff members and volunteers, relaxing on the desk and sharing lunch if they offered. But, mostly, he was waiting ... until his perfect match found him.

100th P.R.O.U.D. Dog Adopted
Thor the Great Dane and Ace the Dane/Lab mix were each adopted by men who work for Henry County EMS. The adopters are buddies who learned about our P.R.O.U.D. program through an EMS colleague. The men work 24-hour shifts at the station and their dogs are allowed at the station while they are working. Thor and Ace, who are good buddies, too, will get to see and play with each other at work. With their adoption, over 100 dogs who have gone through the P.R.O.U.D. program have been adopted.

Behavior Training Before the Holidays
We have two great programs that will help your dog be on his best behavior during the holidays: B-Gone and B.R.A.T. (Bossy, Reactive, Anxious or Threatening).
The B-Gone series starts on October 12. The series offers targeted four-week courses to help your dog kick annoying habits like begging and bolting for the door. These courses will help you and your dog breeze through family visits or Thanksgiving dinners like a rock star. We can help you have a well-behaved dog this holiday season! Choose one class for $100 or two classes for $150.
If you have a B.R.A.T., we can help! In this course, which begins October 22, you will learn the fundamentals of dog psychology behind impulsive, reactive, boisterous, loud, anxious or just plain bossy dogs. We will work in a small groups to address all types of offensive or unwanted behaviors by building both the owners' and dogs' self-confidence.
Need a little more? Take your B.R.A.T. on the road. In this session, we will teach you how to handle your dog in action, such as neighborhood walks, high-distraction areas and squirrelly situations. We will help you put your tools to work when you need them most, real life! Class sessions will be in and around the Lyndon classroom

S.N.I.P. Clinic Reaches Milestone
In September, the S.N.I.P. Clinic completed its 60,000th spay/neuter surgery since opening its doors in February 2007. Since the S.N.I.P. Clinic's opening, KHS has seen a reduction in the number of unwanted litters of puppies and kittens coming to its doors. We hope this trend continues!
The S.N.I.P. Clinic has also begun an online appointment process, which should improve efficiency in the registration process. To access the online registration form, click here.
