She's mad as hell and she's not taking it any more! Time to get the foxes out of the hen house!
Ina Denburg, our Healthy Eating columnist, has written about the ubiquity of genetically engineered foods on the grocery shelves or in our pantries for the last year and a half. This week she dug deeper to find out how genetically engineered foods expose us to the dangers of glyphosate - the active ingredient in Monsanto's Roundup herbicide.
"I feel as if I'm in a bizarre Wonderland that is unfortunately called the political reality in America!" says Ina. "The faster I run towards devouring new information about the negative health effects of glyphosate, the more I'm frustrated by the continuing attacks on our body politic by Monsanto and its minions."
It certainly doesn't help that they're receiving continual support from both the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), who are charged with protecting our health and well being. Read the whole story here: Alice in Glyphosate Land.
Don't stop there! Here is another terrific piece that Ina wrote last year - it's even more important now. It's best if you read it aloud!
"Ladies and Gentlemen, step right up, our GMOcery tour is about to begin. That's right, get on board our corn-fueled trolley car; it's a big store, no need to walk. Help yourself to our delicious-nutritious-vitamin-enhanced water drinks found in Aisle 9 and, please, get comfortable and enjoy the tour!" The rest is in Welcome to Your GMOcery.
And in keeping with the fantasy that began with Alice, here is Dorothy in a new Land of Oz. Make no mistake about it... Monsanto would be VERY happy to have you Pay No Attention to That GMO Behind the Curtain. We think it's time to learn everything you can!
To learn more about genetically engineered food, here is a link to a collection of very informative pieces that have appeared on GoodFood World over the last several years. Read on!
There's more, keep reading! While you wouldn't know that we're on the verge of summer here in Puget Sound (cool and rainy this week, as usual for May), we've gone ahead and put together a summer reading list that will inspire, motivate, and educate you!
We explored the shelves of the Kailing library to create a list of books that cover a wide range of relevant topics and represent thinking separated by thousands of years. These books are centered on the relationship we have with the earth and each other, with our communities and surrounding ecosystems, with the plants and animals around us, all connected with the food we eat. Ranging from poetry and fiction, from philosophy to biography, these are books that can change the way you live on and care for the earth. Here's Your Summer Reading List. There are more books on GoodFood World and more coming every week. Read, learn, and enjoy! |

Seed Saving Around the World is from Australia where it's autumn and the seeds are ready. Kate Flint, Australian gardener and seed saver, talks about her seed saving passion.
In this hemisphere we can look forward to a great growing season, a bountiful harvest, and lots of seeds to tuck away for next year!

The Growing Revolution is the story of Jubilee Biodynamic Farm in Carnation WA. It explores the farm's history, the growth of its CSA, and Erick and Wendy Haakenson's passionate commitment to what Wendell Berry calls the agrarian mindset.
The Haakenson's are beginning Jubllee's 18th season and there is still time to sign up for the summer CSA session. We can speak from experience: the spring greens, early strawberries, and sweet snap peas are amazing! And it just keeps getting better!
There are more videos on GoodFood World and more coming every week.

It's a challenge for her at 87, but she tells us she's more worried about being late with planting her vegetable garden. Take care, Lea! We miss you!
Lea will soon be back at her keyboard filling us in on her sheep raising adventures and misadventures. In the meantime, keep reading, there is more at Voices From the Farm! |
