Coalition to Preserve LA Praises Conservationists:

They Stopped Gov. Brown from Wiping Out Environmental Protections Under CEQA

Brown's attack on CEQA is dead
The Coalition to Preserve LA applauds the Sierra Club, the Planning and Conservation League and scores of groups who fought and today stopped Gov. Jerry Brown's proposal to gut CEQA and Coastal Act environmental protections for virtually any urban project where developers agreed to add an insignificant number of affordable housing units.

In June, we urged our supporters, and those who believe developers are the last ones who should decide their communities' fates, to call Gov. Brown to protest Trailer Bill 707. Brown's now fully dead idea would have trampled over the California Environmental Quality Act and Coastal Act, handing the wheel to developers who have shown that without environmental oversight they will gladly place thousands of children in harm's way, create massive surface street gridlock and destroy unique and beloved neighborhood character...Read More!

Project Coyote

Venture out into one of the many parks, hiking trails or neighborhoods in the Bay Area and you will likely encounter signs for one of Project Coyote's most exciting and growing programs, called
Coyote Friendly Communities™. For the past year, Project Coyote has worked closely with the City of San Francisco to create attractive, science-based informative materials to hang on front doors and post at trailheads and park entrances with tips and tools for coexisting peacefully with coyotes. These resources, developed for co-branding with San Francisco Animal Care and Control and the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, offer advice on how to safely and successfully handle coyote encounters as well as directions to access downloadable materials and information available on Project Coyote's website. And, in one San Francisco community, the resources come hand-delivered by Dan De Vries, our personable and knowledgeable Coyote Friendly Communities Citizen Leader. Dan is clear in his mission: "I'm not only advocating for coyotes, I'm advocating for humanity."

"I'm not only advocating for coyotes, I'm advocating for humanity."

Dan became a Project Coyote Citizen Leader in the early spring of 2016, after meeting Project Coyote's Founder and Executive Director Camilla Fox at a conference in San Francisco. He has since collaborated on a mapping tool that shows where he has distributed information and connected with people. He regularly submits reports of his outreach to Project Coyote and San Francisco's Animal Care and Control (AC&C). He has been quietly pioneering a practice that many citizens who care about wildlife may be interested in emulating. With that in mind, we recently caught up with Dan to learn more about his background and experiences educating members of his community about coyotes and other wildlife.

"I went out on a coyote walkabout again today....I talked to a woman who wasn't so much hostile as fearful. She said she wasn't going out in the dark anymore. I showed her the little red AC&C flasher and she asked "how much?" I explained that I was giving them away and she asked for another for her husband." - Report Excerpt by Dan De Vries

If you find yourself inspired to become a Citizen Leader in your community, we encourage you to visit Project Coyote's website check out our downloadable resources, and learn more about the purpose and impact of our Coyote Friendly Communities program.

Two Girls 1 PupCast - September 13th!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
"Two Girls. One Pup." - The Comedy Show You Can Bring Your Dog To

2 Girls 1 Pup PUPcast Season Two Premiers Tuesday, September 13th.

Los Angeles, CA - Season Two of the 2 Girls 1 Pup PUPcast is back with more comedians, entertainers and animal experts chatting about the thing all dog owners love to talk about: their four-legged best friends! The podcast is an extension of the monthly live comedy show you can bring your dog to, named one of the "10 Best New Stand-Up Shows in L.A" by LA Weekly.

Hosted and produced by comedian Monique Madrid (Second City), listeners learn the more intimate side of these hilarious dog-loving guests. It's the side that dotes on their pups and goes to ridiculous lengths to keep them happy. Madrid also hosts fascinating animal experts, such as Ryan Thor, a Hollywood dog trainer and half of the therapy duo Thor and The Dudeman. Besides teaching Madrid some tricks herself, Thor dishes on what it's like to work on the Nick Jr. show Mutt N' Stuff with Cesar Milan's son Calvin.

Other exciting guests in this new season include U.S. Congressman Adam Schiff, a recipient of the 2015 Waggy Award from The Tailwagger Foundation, for his animal activist work. "Besides really loving dogs, the Congressman has a great sense of humor and was a blast to interview," says Madrid. "The PUPcast is such a fun way to get to know people and find out more about their home life and their truest self, which I believe is the side that dogs really bring out in their humans."

Chatting with people is one of Monique's favorite things to do. From doing interviews for Serial Optimist and Splitsider Magazine, to her own onstage late-night talk show "Bitch I'll Cut You," the part-time hair stylist says she's used to chatting for a living. "I feel like I'm already good at it, but getting people to open up about their dog is extra easy. They love talking about the weird little quirks and rituals their frisky Boston Terrier has, or the crazy story of how they came to adopt their sweet Greyhound. Or their hilarious poop stories. There are a lot of great poop stories!" Other interviews scheduled for this season include comedians and actors from the shows @midnightAnother Period, Drunk History and crossover episodes with other podcasts from the Hello Lion Face network.

Like Season 1, Madrid and her guests delve into many different subjects, play silly trivia games, go off on a tangent or two, but most importantly have a great time. Additionally, the show will continue with its popular "Meet the Dogs in Your Neighborhood" candid street interviews. The show has become a great way to learn from each other's pet experiences and laugh at the things all pet owners have in common, because comedy and dogs really are a perfect combination. And as always, 100% of the 2 Girls 1 Pup live show proceeds are donated to The Tailwaggers Foundation, and a portion of any podcast and upcoming merchandise revenue will be donated to the organization as well.
