IN MEMORIAM - William A. Emboden Ph.D., F.L.S.

2/24/1935 - 5/10/2016

William was a 42-year resident of Hollywoodland.

Scientist, Artist, Poet! To know William is to know more than these three facets of his multi-talented and complex life. What no one knows is how much he gave to charities and especially to save children and animals. He was also a great advocate for saving the environment and donated a lot to save wildlife. He was a naturalist. He was also know as "Dr. Feel Good" because of his publications and expertise on Narcotic Plants with a book by that name. He appeared internationally and in the US as a legal expert in cannabis cases and advocated for the legalization of it.

His scientific and academic work stands on its on merit and will live on. He was as much a poet as a scientist. He had world-wide recognition as a biochemist, professor, botanist, research scientist, lecturer, art critic, author, librettist and playwright. His seven books and two hundred and fifty publications speak volumes. There are fifty-six paintings in one collection alone but he did not live the life of an artist. It was the manifestation or expression of his poetry which he wrote every day of his life. There are more than one thousand "Jisei" Death Poems that he left behind. There are bookshelves and file cabinets full of his published and unpublished work. He only wrote in cursive script the last 20 years of his life. But it was difficult to read so he always had someone doing data entry for him. This is how he moved into the 21st Century, dragging his feet. He was really a 19th Century gentleman and wished that he had been born in that time period.

To see his art, poetry and read some of his commentary, look at his profile at www.clarkfinearts.com or google him.

He was greatly appreciated at the Royal Academy, The Lineman Society, Harvard, Oxford, UCLA and various other institutions with which he was affiliated. He was very happy to have lived to see the publication of "THE ART OF WILLIAM EMBODEN" by Chevalier Tony Clark.

He was most proud of helping the children with cancer at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. If you want to do something in his memory please click on the link.

He also was a major donor to Home - National Wildlife Federation.
