A Breathe of Fresh Air in Beachwood Canyon

DOT stationed at Dirt Mulholland Labor Day weekend - One at Rockcliff/Deronda as well!
We give a positive 60 day job performance review of our new CD 4 representative, David Ryu and his staff! If the level of responsiveness and service provided continues, we may see a new breed of politician spreading throughout the City of Angels.

In just two months on the job, residents are excited about the improvements already visible in the community. The past few weeks in response to complaints about tourist traffic on the streets that approach the Hollywood sign, LAPD Cadets and traffic and parking enforcement have been helping to keep traffic moving and off the smaller streets that have no access. These steps are so appreciated by those who have sought relief for many years.

Also in our neighborhood, Mr. Ryu sent his chief of staff to voice the councilman's support of the preservation and restoration of the Villa Carlotta and asked that parking conditions, long ignored by the businesses on Franklin Avenue be upheld.

These are just three instances of service provided by Mr. Ryu and his staff that are overwhelmingly appreciated and approved. If other districts start seeing satisfied constituents, maybe it will spur them to start looking for their own "Superman" to protect their interests.

Thank you, David.

Wildlife Bridge Plan

The $30 million overpass across one of Los Angeles County's busiest freeways will be designed for wild animals, whose habitats are shrinking because of urban sprawl. Washington state broke ground on its first wildlife crossing in June. Ben Tracy reports on how the largest animal bridge in America could help save one of the last big carnivores in the western U.S.

Cheremoya's 100th Anniversary

Dr Ronald R Steele, Principal, Mr Jeff Kogen, Ms Debbi Aldahl, Mrs Gwen Murata Class of 1994 - 1995

That's right. The school at the bottom of the hill (the landmark that is the gateway to Beachwood Canyon) will turn 100 this year!

The new principal, Steve Salva is starting to plan for the big event and a large part of this effort will be focused on trying to get in touch with former students and teachers. In order to help him, we are publishing class photos from various years. Do you know anyone from this class (1998 - 1999)? Are you an alumni of the school and interested in sharing a story or two? Have you attended Cheremoya School?

If so, e-mail Steve at [email protected].

Maybe you would like to help organize this great event or maybe offer a donation for the celebration.

Please make your check payable to Cheremoya Avenue Elementary School. Make sure to write the following in the memo on your check:  "100th Celebration"  Please mail your generous donation to:

Beachwood Happy Hour!

Jeff & Karen invite you all to come to Hollywoodland Antiques for happy hour! They do this most every Friday from 5 - 7 p.m.!

Come in and have a glass of wine or a beer, snacks, and get to know your neighbors.

They look forward to seeing you this and every Friday! Join the newly formed tradition that's all the rage in Beachwood!

P.S. Stop in and ask to see some of Karen's hand painted creations. Some are wearing her shirts in the neighborhood. This is MUST SEE stuff.

P.S. & P.S. This is a total good vibe event - we have noticed neighbors walking down the street at around 5 pm on Friday, almost all headed for Happy Hour. What a perfect way build community! Sometimes there is a surprise theme!

Beachwood Cafe

Why not wander into into the Cafe and have a meal and conversation with any one of the many neighbors you will run into? This IS family!

In days gone by, most neighbors would meet spontaneously in the local cafe and visit about all manner of neighborhood issues. We can do it again.

NO MORE ROBOCALLS!

Just a few months ago, Consumer Reports launched an aggressive national campaign to force the phone companies to block robocalls before they get to you.

Signing this petition will only take you a minute.

Thanks to our campaign, pressure on the phone companies is mounting.

  • The FCC strengthened your rights. Telemarketers now need your written consent to robocall you.
  • Then the FCC Chairman told the phone companies that they can...and absolutely should..give customers robocall blocking services.
  • This summer, forty-five Attorneys general demanded that phone companies provide effective call blocking tools to their customers. Eight senators in Washington joined the call in August.
This fall we will deliver 500,000 signatures from customers like you to the top phone companies at high profile events around the country.

Together, we can accelerate these positive changes so that YOU get the relief you want. Your phone company should do something for you and the solution should be free of charge!

Sincerely,

Tim Marvin, Consumer Reports (EndRobocalls.org
