BCNA Summer Meeting with David Ryu and Staff - Aug 17, 2015

This has been a hectic but productive time since our new Councilman David Ryu was sworn in. We are excited to welcome David and his staff to our neighborhood on Monday August 17 at 7 p.m.

He will bring several new staff members and we will all get a chance to ask questions and visit with them.

The format of this meeting will be more like a casual meet and greet to give you, the local resident, a chance to shake hands and have good conversations. You are invited to share your thoughts and concerns in a safe and friendly environment.

Great Start for Councilmember Ryu!

David Ryu promised during his campaign to change the way council discretionary funds were used and we are happy to report that he is as good as his word!

On July 28, 2015 at the LA City Council meeting, Mr. Ryu raised concerns about funds directed by former councilmember Tom La Bonge that were outside of the council district and directed at efforts that council voters had vehemently voiced opposition.

Ryu stated that "These are decisions that I have to manage and be held accountable for and I want a fair and open process to restore trust in local government."

Besant Live Presents - Tribute To Manly P. Hall

with Stephan Hoeller

Sunday August 30 Doors open at 5:30 for the 6 p.m. Lecture

Besant Live Events will present a festive

evening lecture with Stephan Hoeller commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the death of mystic teacher, esoteric scholar and founder of The Philosophical Research Society, Manly P. Hall.

The evening will be held in the historic and newly restored Besant Lodge where Manly P. Hall was the very first speaker to dedicate the just purchased Theosophical Society property with a lecture in 1955.

Come join Stephan Hoeller in an evening of reminiscences of this remarkable man. Stephan lectured at PRS for more than 20 years at the request of MPH and knew Mr. Hall intimately.

Come join the community in a night of remembrance of a one of a kind global teacher and Los Angeles icon, Manly Palmer Hall.

Cheremoya's 100th Anniversary

That's right. The school at the bottom of the hill (the landmark that is the gateway to Beachwood Canyon) will turn 100 this year!

The new principal, Steve Salva is starting to plan for the big event and a large part of this effort will be focused on trying to get in touch with former students and teachers. In order to help him, we are publishing class photos from various years. Do you know anyone from this class (1998 - 1999)? Are you an alumni of the school and interested in sharing a story or two? Have you attended Cheremoya School?

In days gone by, most neighbors would meet spontaneously in the local cafe and visit about all manner of neighborhood issues. We can do it again.
