The team at Beachwood Canyon Neighborhood Association
Our BEST Wildlife Officer to be Transferred to Shelter Duty!
Your Voice Counts!

Gregory Randall has been our ever-present professional Wildlife resource in the Hollywood Hills. He has attended many meetings of our organizations to give educational presentations. He has always answered calls and emails regarding neighborhood concerns about co-existing with wildlife.

He is now being told that he will be transferred to East Valley Animal Shelter as an Animal Control Officer. This shift would leave us without a trained and experienced Urban Wildlife Officer to meet the growing needs of the community in the hills. It's time to ask the City and the Animal Services Commission to change their minds. Please write a letter now - this is really important!

Tell them that a grave mistake is taking place. Let them know that you are in support of Officer Gregory Randall being restored to his position as Wildlife Specialist for the Los Angeles Animal Services.

It would be good to recommend that Gregory Randall Wildlife Specialist be given charge of the Wildlife Program since he has demonstrated compassion and leadership regarding wildlife and human encounters. His work with hillside neighborhoods has improved the way we view wildlife by reducing vilification through education and hard work. He should not be removed from the Urban Wildlife Program this close to his official retirement date some five years down the road. This wrong-headed shift will make it impossible for him to continue doing the Urban Wildlife consulting work - educating people and caring for wildlife - his life's ambition!

Send your letter to our 4th District Councilmember, Tom Labonge Tom.Labonge@lacity.org and the Councilmember for the 13th District, Mitch O'Farrell, councilmember.ofarrell@lacity.org

PERMIT PARKING UPDATE

We are now told that the permits that are NOW available are good until November 2015.

Also, from the time the permit parking signs are installed, there will still be a "grace period" which is 30 days from the date of that installation. Permit parking districts come with full support from the Department of Transportation and Parking Enforcement. Citations and towing will take place, but not until the signs have been installed for 30 days. For more detailed information, please write to Tamara Martin in the Department of Transportation:

Westshire Max Needs a Forever Home

Max is a 6-year-old neutered male German Shepherd. He's great with children but not good with small dogs or cats. He's got a great temperament, sweet and not at all aggressive.

He has to find a forever home because, 1) his owners are allergic to his dander so he has lived outdoors his whole life, and, 2) they work away from home and this guy cries for them at sunset. The owners are sensitive to the needs of this neighborhood and are looking for a better fit for their dear Max.

Maybe someone out there wants a companion dog and is able to be around him often. Could be that this new owner can take him for a walk to get some exercise. Could that person be YOU?

Please contact Caz via email caz_byun@hotmail.com

Otis May Be Available THIS Week!

Otis is about 3-months-old. He's not neutered or microchipped.

He was found on Thanksgiving day in Atwater Village. He is safe with a foster while we make sure his owners are not coming forward.

His flier is posted at the Lacy Street Shelter as well as numerous online websites. There are flyers up in the neighborhood where he was found and the surrounding area.

Otis is a playful, affectionate, adorable puppy.

He is not yet housebroken (although today he made strides going outside for the first time to do his business) and he doesn't like to be left alone. Also, he may be used to sleeping in a bed and is not crate trained.

However, he is a faster learner and I taught him to "sit" in less than 15 minutes.

We are looking for a home for him now in case his owners don't come forward. Are you interested? If so, please send email to Penni: jammde@aol.com

We will give his owners one more week but we are networking him in the meantime and trying to find potential rescues or adopters.

Currently, Otis is in foster care with three other dogs so he is becoming socialized and we are doing "basic training" to make him the best puppy he can be for his forever home. We are also going to take care of vaccinations and microchipping this week. We will also pay for neutering but want to wait a week or two so he gets a bit older. If we adopt him out before he is neutered, WE will pay for it.

Beachwood Cafe
Why not wander into into the Cafe and have a meal and conversation with any one of the many neighbors you will run into? This IS family!

In days gone by, most neighbors would meet spontaneously in the local cafe and visit about all manner of neighborhood issues. We can do it again.
