PERMIT PARKING

Recently the Department of Transportation sent letters to the residents in the first temporary permit parking district to be installed in Beachwood Canyon. While these letters contained a vast amount of information on how the program works and how to go get your permits, the reality is that the City wasn't really ready to issue those permits. A few took action and responded to these letters by going downtown to pick up their permits only to find that it will be weeks before this can actually happen. Best to wait until the signs have been installed and then consider going to buy your first set of permits.

Did you know that there is a "grace period" which is 30 days from the installation of the permit parking signs to the day that they are actually enforced? While the permit parking district comes with full support from the Department of Transportation and Parking Enforcement, that won't take place until 30 days has passed. This covers the time it takes for folks to "get" that they cannot park in this area. Citations and towing will take place, but not until the signs have been installed for 30 days. Think New Years 2015 as a goal to go buy your permits.

Coyote Alert

Recently, a coyote jumped int o a back yard where a little 4-year-old girl was playing. This was in the hillside community called the Hollywood Dell and it's one canyon over from Beachwood. This was in the daytime. Many hillside residents have received a great deal of education and support from our only trained Wildlife Specialist, Gregory Randall. While Officer Randall is on leave, please check out some of these links and share them with your neighbors.

This drought has caused wildlife to go outside their own comfort zones in search of food and water. We live on their land and must learn to coexist with them while protecting our children and small animals.

Westshire Max Needs a Forever Home

Max is a 6-year-old neutered male German Shepherd. He's great with children but not good with small dogs or cats. He's got a great temperament, sweet and not aggressive at all.

He has to find a forever home because, 1) his owners are allergic to his dander so he has lived outdoors his whole life, and, 2) they work away from home and this guy cries for them at sunset. The owners are sensitive to the needs of this neighborhood and are looking for a better fit for their dear Max.

Maybe someone out there wants a companion dog and is able to be around him often. Could be that this new owner can take him for a walk to get some exercise. Could that person be YOU?

Beachwood Cafe
Why not wander into into the Cafe and have a meal and conversation with any one of the many neighbors you will run into? This IS family!

In days gone by, most neighbors would meet spontaneously in the local cafe and visit about all manner of neighborhood issues. We can do it again.
