COALITION FIGHTING L.A. CITY HALL'S "PUBLIC-BE-DAMNED" MILLENNIUM PROJECT 

 

LAUNCHES SOCIAL MEDIA/CROWD-FUNDING CAMPAIGN

 

A coalition of residents, tenants, taxpayers and environmentalists have launched a social media/crowd-funding campaign to finance their fight to overturn L.A. City Hall's illegal approval of the $650 million, twin-skyscraper Millennium Hollywood project - outrageously proposed for construction on top of an earthquake fault!  

 

The coalition is using the popular crowd-funding website Indigogo.com to raise funds for its continuing legal and media campaign against the Millennium project, said Fran Reichenbach, a leader of the group. The coalition has set a goal of raising $120,000 in 60 days. Supporters can easily make tax-deductible contributions at  StopTheMillennium's Indiegogo website. (http://tinyurl.com/StopTheMillennium) 

 

"We are appealing to citizens throughout Los Angeles, California and the nation to recognize that our fight is much bigger than protecting Hollywood from the dangerous, super-sized Millennium project set to be built on an earthquake fault," said Reichenbach.

 

"The proposed Millennium project - which would put thousands of future tenants, employees and visitors to this project at risk - is outrageous in its own right," said Reichenbach. "But our cause is also vitally important to everyone who is fighting City Hall - in L.A. or elsewhere. City Hall's public-be-damned contempt for the rule of law, ethics and public safety must be challenged."

 

"If the Millennium project can be built under these outrageous circumstances then no Los Angeles community is safe from City Hall's contempt for the public," said Reichenbach.

 

"We need civic-minded, good government supporters to join us in sending a message that we are fed up with the L.A. City Hall culture of secrecy, rule-breaking and cozy collusion with fat-cat developers that allows projects like the Millennium to go forward," said veteran Hollywood activist and coalition leader George Abrahams. "Getting this project overturned by the courts will rattle City Hall's cage."

 

"But getting the justice that the public deserves does not come easy - and it's not cheap," said Reichenbach. "We are hopeful that our Indiegogo campaign will encourage everyone who lives in Hollywood, lives in Los Angeles or California - everyone who has been to Hollywood, dreamed of Hollywood, been inspired by Hollywood, no matter where they live, to open their hearts and their pocketbooks and support us."

 

The StopTheMillennium's Indigogo website contains further details about what the group has already accomplished in its fight that benefit the public. "We've already proved effective in blowing the whistle on City Hall but our work is not done," said Abrahams. "Donations are urgently needed so we can cross the finish line with a victory the voters and taxpayers of Los Angeles. We cannot let City Hall's abuse of the public trust go unchallenged."

 

At the Indiegogo website, supporters also will be invited to become StopTheMillennium "team members." Names of "team members" will be posted on the website. "What a great way to show you care, by becoming a team member," said Reichenbach.

 

The coalition is represented by attorney Robert P. Silverstein, who has a great record of successfully fighting over-development. He was one of the attorneys who recently helped overturn the badly-flawed Hollywood Community Plan Update approved by City Hall.
