Neighborhood Courtesy Letter

(This neighbor is leading by example. If you are planning a big event, consider informing your neighbors ahead of time. My apologies for not including this in the previous newsletter.)

Dear Hollywoodland Neighbors,

My fiancé and I are getting married at our Beachwood Village house across from the café: 2706 North Beachwood Drive, on Saturday, the 19th of July.

Guests will be arriving from 4:00 on. The ceremony is at 4:30, and the party/reception will go on until 11:00 p.m., for about 100 guests. We're trying to make the whole thing very Beachwood-centric, using My Fair Lady for the flowers, and The Beachwood Café for the rehearsal dinner Friday evening, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

We will have a DJ, but he's stationed inside the house, with dance floor and dancing in our living-room to cut down on noise and possible disturbance to neighbors. We have valet parking, and have hired a security guard as well, but we do want our neighbors to know that this will be happening, and to expect some party music and celebration noise from 4:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. Saturday, July 19th.

We are very grateful for your understanding, and very excited to tie the knot in this special neighborhood, where TInker has lived since 1980.

 Best, Tinker Lindsay

FAA Helicopter Study

  helicopter

A Powerpoint presentation of a FAA study of helicopter traffic in the Hollywood Hills centered around Beachwood Canyon is available for download at this link:
https://www.dropbox.com/l/4RRHTCbFZ1Ph6l8MZ2w9or?

It was done as part of the legislation which Congressman Adam Schiff got passed last year giving helicopter operators one year to show a reduction of negative impacts to residents or else flight rules will be imposed.

Meetings between the helicopter operators and community groups hosted by the FAA are ongoing. There are several changes short of flight rules being imposed that are being tried and some progress has been achieved. BCNA representative to the meetings, George Abrahams has requested a study of moving the Santa Monica Airport approach path from Griffith Park to a point further south so that flights of planes and helicopters over the Hollywood Hills can be increased to 2,000 above ground level. The most that helicopter operators are saying that can be safely achieved given the current conditions is 800 feet AGL. The FAA has done some work to begin a feasibility analysis. The complete study is estimated to cost $7 million.

Permit Parking Update

Permit parking districts have been approved for areas of Hollywoodland overrun by large crowds of people trying to get a photo or hike to the Hollywood Sign. While we were hoping for the installation of those signs to take place in July, we are now informed that we can expect this to happen sometime in August.

In the meantime, the city continues to post cadets at the Vista and at Dirt Mulholland. The Park Rangers, LAPD, West Traffic and Parking Enforcement are making their presence known at both of these areas.

The gate at the top of Beachwood Drive is still far from complete and remains closed to all traffic (pedestrians included) except for those who are associated with Sunset Ranch.

We want to extend our thanks to the City, especially to our CD4 field deputy, Tracy James for continuing to work on solutions for our area.

Beachwood Cafe
Why not wander into into the Cafe and have a meal and conversation with any one of the many neighbors you will run into? This IS family!

In days gone by, most neighbors would meet spontaneously in the local cafe and visit about all manner of neighborhood issues. We can do it again.

Turning a Frown Upside Down

Look what Bill found in Huffington Post:

The next time you find yourself alone in an airport, take a page out of Richard Dunn's book and channel your inner Celine Dion.

Dunn, stuck overnight at Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport, rejected the standard time-wasting techniques of reading and crying alone into stale Cinnabon. Instead, he let his inner creativity take the wheel -- and it steered him to Celine Dion's classic cover of the Eric Carmen song, "All By Myself."

After being bumped from two flights, Dunn says, "I thought, well I don't have enough time to go to a hotel so what do I do? I've got my phone and an empty movie set, let's see what trouble I can get into," he explained, then added, regarding his mental state in the airport, "I'm just peeing myself laughing listening to this stuff thinking 'you're just tired it's not that funny.'"

Regarding some of the more technical shots, Dunn says he persuaded a person at the ticket counter to give him a roll of luggage tape before she left for the night.

"I then used a wheel chair that had a tall pole on the back of it and taped my iPhone to that," he wrote in a comment on his Vimeo page

Dunn achieved the moving shots by placing the chair on various moving walkways, escalators, etc., then edited it all together with Final Cut Pro.
