It's Time for Continual LAPD Support

This is the routine traffic and illegal parking situation at Mulholland just off Ledgewood. The LAPD may be overwhelmed, but we are overwhelmed as well. It's a joy to see a patrol vehicle stop by with the ability to write tickets. We need a few of these patrol cars for our weekends. This particular intersection and the Scenic View are crying out for this kind of presence.

The City Prepares to Get Tough on Commercial Vans

The cadets that are posted at the Scenic View on weekends are now handing this document to drivers of oversized commercial tour vans. It's a gentle warning that the City is preparing to back it up very shortly. Click on the image to download a pdf of this document. If we all have these ready to hand to the drivers, the word will get out and the presence of these vehicles on our narrow streets may diminish. If not, they won't be surprised when they are weighed, cited and receive fines for driving here.

Gatto Honors Beachwood Resident Meg Hill

Assemblyman Mike Gatto honors Beachwood Canyon resident Meg Hill, owner of Atwater Village's Golden Road Brewing, as the Small Business of the Year.

Assemblyman Mike Gatto (D-Los Angeles) honored local business owner Meg Gill and Atwater Village's Golden Road Brewing yesterday at the California Small Business Day Awards Ceremony in Sacramento.  The annual awards ceremony honors the contributions of small businesses to the State of California.

"Meg Gill and Golden Road Brewing are an inspiration to us all," said Assemblyman Gatto.  "Her entrepreneurship creates jobs and helps other young women to believe that with hard work and perseverance, anything is possible."

Meg Gill, the co-founder of the Golden Road Brewery, was nominated by Assemblyman Gatto for her tireless dedication to building a successful small business that gives back to the community as much as it takes.  At 28-years-old, Gill is one of the youngest female brewery owners in the country, was recently named to Forbes Magazine's 30-Under-30, and her brewery is the largest craft brewery in Los Angeles County. But more importantly, in addition to building a vibrant small business, Gill and Golden Road co-founder Tony Yanow have also remained focused on building a vibrant Los Angeles.

"We're incredibly grateful for the support we've received from Assemblyman Gatto and the City of Los Angeles to help us, and fellow breweries, cultivate and drive demand for craft beer and its community-driven culture," said Gill.  "In under three years, Golden Road has grown to more than 150 employees and brings 20,000+ visitors a week to our restaurant and pub.  Being recognized as the Small Business of the Year will help us continue to foster our commitment to local organizations such as Heal the Bay and the Greenway 2020 project."

Grey Water Workshop
July 13, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

A recent study found that residents of Los Angeles are using 54% of water for outdoor irrigation.

Learn how to reduce your home's water consumption, reuse the water you already paid for, and grow productive plants.
  •  "Drought-Proof Your Landscape with Greywater". Learn about common types of systems, advantages and limitation of different systems, what soaps and products are plant-friendly, water saving potential, costs, and about codes and regulations. Discover what types of greywater systems may be best for your home.
  • Greywater Design and Installation workshop. We'll take you through the design process for a "laundry to landscape" (L2L) greywater system, which is the most popular, simple, and easiest-to-install residential system, and it doesn't require a permit (so long as basic guidelines are followed). Whether you install the system yourself, or you hire someone to assist you, this workshop will prepare you for the experience. You'll put together a "mock-up" of a real system, as well as get individual advice from experienced instructors about your site. You'll leave with a system design and materials list to construct your own L2L system. Note: You must have a flat or downwards sloping yard to irrigate with this type of system.

World's Friendliest Cat - Foster or Adopt me! I'm Just Back From the Groomers

Before my grooming experience.
Abandoned by my owner, I need a new home ASAP.

I'm a quiet, mellow, affectionate cat and I need a new home (for foster or adoption) after being abandoned by my owner upon moving. I will be more playful in a safe environment and will be the purrfect companion. I'm medium sized, approx. 5 years old, orange and white (with a lot more orange) in color.

After my grooming. I'm yours, right?

Congratulations Corporal Kiddy!

"I was the flight attendant on a Memorial Day flight. Speaking with the passenger in the front row, I learned that the dog pictured was Corporal Kiddy. She had just earned her retirement after 12 years with the U.S. Marines. I made an announcement to congratulate her on her career. The cabin erupted into applause. The corporal jumped onto the nearest lap to graciously accept."

Thoughts to Live By?

"I don't want to live in the kind of world where we don't look out for each other. Not just the people that are close to us, but anybody who needs a helping hand. I can't change the way anybody else thinks, or what they choose to do, but I can do my bit."

Farewell, Nestor!

Our feline companion of 19 years crossed the rainbow bridge yesterday. He was the toughest cat we have ever had, surviving a coyote attack and various illnesses. He lived all 9 lives to the fullest and was always ready for a head bump and some snuggle time. The Reichenbach family was blessed by his presence, as was every one of our friends and visitors who became the object of his affection over the years. Till we meet again, we love you Nestor!
