Memorial Day Report

Hiker parks illegally and falls at 10 pm from the wall.

On May 25, 2014, mystery neighbors put the little sawhorses away that were blocking Dirt Mulholland, as they had been doing every evening during crowded weekends. Not long after, a woman decided, while it was dark, that she wanted to pay a visit to the top of Dirt Mulholland. She wasn't in great shape and had her dog with her. Sometime during that evening, close to 10 p.m., she fell off the historic granite wall and broke her arm. Helicopters and many other emergency response resources came to her aid.
Hiker's dash board - a citation and a note to NOT tow. Injured hiker.

The next day, her car was spotted parked illegally with a ticket on it and a note on the dash board NOT to tow the car as this was the injured hiker.

The next evening (Memorial Day), after the little saw horses were, once again, removed by mystery neighbors, a tour guide drove up and backed into the fire hydrant.

Many gallons of water gushed down both Durand/Heather and Mulholland/Ledgewood into a drain at five points.

Update - Thanks to the DWP expediting, the hydrant has been repaired.

They will make an effort to relocate this hydrant since, according to the DWP, installing vertical posts (bollards) could cause serious injury to motorists if hit.

Simple concept: Mystery sawhorses up at Dirt Mulholland, no accidents or injuries. Sawhorses down: broken arm, broken fire hydrant, and loss of countless gallons of water.

20th L.A. Film Festival

June 11 to 19, 2014

Buster Keaton's "Sherlock Jr." is 45 minutes of mind-boggling comic inspiration. In this silent masterpiece, Buster plays a movie projectionist, framed by a romantic rival for a crime, who falls asleep in his booth and in his reverie walks into the movie he's projecting, where he encounters one cinematic peril after another. (Woody Allen borrowed the concept and reversed it in The Purple Rose of Cairo.) This marvel of surreal slapstick will be shown with Keaton's hilarious shortCops(which offers wonderful glimpses of 1920s L.A.). Both films will be accompanied live by the French garage rockers Magnetix, who have composed an original score just for this outdoor screening at California Plaza. Bring your friends and family, and prepare for astonishment. This event is part of the year-long 50th anniversary celebration of the Los Angeles-Bordeaux Sister Cities program. Deronda Gate - Access Impeded

This 6-minute YouTube video captured traffic issues that took place within 15 minutes on May 26, 2014 at the top of Deronda. The gate at the top is the only passage that the LAFD has to respond to a fire in Griffith Park. They need to gain access to help operate the water tank to enable helicopter water drops. This gate is also the main gate that the Information Technology Agency (ITA) uses to keep staff up at Mt. Lee 24/7 365 days a year.

More on Mt. Lee in the next Beachwood Canyon Neighborhood Association newsletter.

What an idea:

Rollin Gaines reply:

"Am I the only nerd that just measured a penny? It's 3/4" which makes it $2.56 per sq ft."

Joey Martinez:

"Yeah this is cool until you go to your friends house and they used dimes or quarters."

Did You Know?

Message from a neighbor posted on Facebook today:

This is so amazing that I have to share it with everyone. A few days ago I was bitten by some sort of bugs allover my feet and legs. Needless to say, I was miserable and scratching non stop, tearing my skin apart. I could not get relief no matter what I tried.

So I searched and searched for help. Long story short. A freakin blow dryer will take away the itch after a few seconds of applying the hot air. Yup, a blow dryer. I suppose heat releases histamines, which will make you itch worse for a second and then, *BAM* relief! It's incredible. Everyone should know this before you rip your skin off. YAY!
