River Clean Up - Volunteers Needed - April 26th

Help us at the Los Angeles River!

Dear Members and Volunteers,

We are looking for people to help us set up and operate the FOLAR River Clean Up at Bette Davis Area of Griffith Park (on the Burbank side of river).

http://folar.org/clean-up-griffith-park-bette-davis-picnic-area/

We need you to arrive at 7 a.m. to help set up tables, sign-in stations and water stations.

You will get a free t-shirt and you can stay as long as you'd like.

Please RSVP if you can help. It's great fun to see hundreds of kids and adults clean up the river.  Last year's event was a huge success.  Let's make this year's even  better!  Remember, the river runs through Griffith Park.

Thanks,

Laura Howe

Vice President, Service Director

Shuttle Planned for Mt. Hollywood Road
Subject: Re: Hollywood Sign Viewing Area Promotional Shuttle Service Program

The shuttle program was created to help alleviate the high volume of traffic in the Hollywood Hills and Beachwood Canyon residential areas. The shuttle will pick up passengers from the parking lot of the Greek Theatre, provide a stop at the vista view point on Mount Hollywood Drive and Griffith Observatory. The entire loop from beginning to end will last approximately 35 minutes. This promotional launch will provide shuttle service every Saturday and Sunday, for a period of three months, beginning on May 3, 2014 and ending July 31. 2014.

P-22 Mountain Lion Found Ill

"Local residents may be putting out rat poison, trying to kill a rat, the rat eats the poison. Then say a coyote comes along, and the coyote eats the rat. And then maybe a mountain lion decides you know, theres not any deer around right now, I'm just gonna go ahead and eat this coyote," Kate Kuykendall of the National Park Service said. "So as the rat poison works its way up the food chain, the dose actually gets bigger and it can become more lethal."

Let's Keep the Solar-Powered Signs!

We all know now that the signs on Beachwood Drive have had a dramatic effect on us: and a good one. Please know that those signs are **solar powered** and friendly. Traffic, both foot and car impact all of us. These signs have helped enormously. While the City fiddled for years, first resisting amelioration and now applying Band-Aids to our safety issues, it turns out that these two signs have done the trick! We welcome nice tourists, but safety for the entire area comes first.

We do not wish to plow down photos-snappers in the middle of the street on Beachwood south of the Village, and we don't want northern Beachwood residents to have to sit in their cars for 30-60 minutes to reach their own driveways. But, even more important; we don't want emergency vehicles to have to wait for gridlock traffic to scatter in order to answer calls for medical help or put out fires.

The key is the message that the solar-powered signs express: Trail Access CLOSED.

LET'S KEEP THE SOLAR SIGNS!
