Judge Agrees With Community Groups

Community groups, including the Beachwood Canyon Neighborhood Association, have won an important victory in a lawsuit against the City's flawed Hollywood Community Plan. They requested and the judge has agreed to order the City to have the HCP Update sent back for a new environmental impact report that would include a downzoning alternative. After all, our community's infrastructure cannot sustain upzoning and densification. Have you noticed the increased traffic burden on the streets surrounding our Beachwood Canyon community lately?

On December 10th, Judge Goodman delivered an early Christmas gift to the groups that have been working quietly but consistently to be heard on this issue. Read a recent post on SaveHollywood.org for all the details. The judge's ruling is posted there as well.

However, the City is still not getting the message. It is resisting the clear mandate from the judge. In a December 20, 2013 memo, LA City Planning Director Michael LoGrande made it clear that the City has not abandoned its commitment to the flawed Transit Oriented Development planning theory that has given rise to massive projects throughout Hollywood that are making traffic congestion unbearable. The memo states: "the Department remains committed to the important principles of the Hollywood Community Plan," including "new growth around transit". This reinforces the need to keep fighting on all fronts to insure the survival of our community.

The judge's ruling is so powerful that it gives hope that the courts will listen to the citizens even when the politicians will not. The current effort of 40+ neighborhood groups to stop the Millennium Project has not yet resulted in a judge's ruling. If the community continues to lend their support to stop the Millennium Project, armed with the above precedent-setting ruling, David can win against Goliath.

Taking back our Hollywood neighborhood and citizens (rather than developers) guiding its development is a goal well worth every donation dollar that can be collected in this new year.

Donate NOW and start the year off with a commitment to what we all can accomplish in 2014. We have made a difference and with your help we will continue to make a difference.

NEIGHBORHOOD VIDEOGRAPHERS

Do you have a smart phone capable of capturing brief (20 - 30 seconds) footage of the massive cars and pedestrians that are making north Beachwood and upper Deronda unbearable? We need your footage.

NEIGHBORHOOD COMMUNICATORS

When you see gridlock and situations on the street where you are sure that emergency vehicles cannot pass, we need you to start making phone calls and sending emails.

Call the non-emergency LAPD number (877) 275-5273 and call the fire department (213) 485-5162. Let them know that the place is over capacity and that there is NO way for them to gain access.

Write to the city and cc us so that we are in the loop.

Help Find a Home for Olyver

BEACHWOOD FRIENDS - PLEASE HELP ME FIND OLYVER A GREAT HOME!!!

I'm fostering an awesome little guy. He's a 1 ½ year-old Pomeranian mix.

He's neutered. Up to date on all shots. Potty-trained. He's so sweet & affectionate. Loves walks, playing outside, sun-bathing. Happiest hanging out with you - he's a major cuddler. Olyver's perfect for someone who wants a smart, amazing friend who's all love. He'd be a great running buddy.

My dog has been injured and can't play or go for walks. So Olyver's missing out on fun & socializing - he needs a new home ASAP. No adoption fee.

If interested in a meet & greet, please contact kim @

Recycling Your Christmas Tree

By City News Service

recycling xmas trees

Angelenos who want to recycle Christmas trees can chop them up and put them in green waste bins or leave them on the curb on garbage day.

Trees can be disposed of in city-issued green waste bins and picked up on a regular schedule.

Another option is to leave the tree, decoration-free, at the curb to be picked up as part of the weekly trash collection. Those living in multi-family buildings can also leave the trees at curbside.

Last year, Angelenos recycled more than 100,000 Christmas trees as part of the Bureau of Sanitation program.
