Our deepest thanks to all the staff at Council District 4. Their support helps make this happen.

Stop by our table at Glen Green/Beachwood for a cup of hot cider.

We know you'll already have eaten dinner but, want to bring a snack or sweet to share?

Dress warmly, bring a folding chair, enjoy the music with your neighbors.

Can't attend the Glen Green event? Consider attending this concert the very next night,

Support Funding for Rangers for Hollywoodland Park Land

(A Message from CD4 Deputy, Daniel Halden - Please complete survey before Dec 30th)

Neighbors,

Thank you to those of you who attended Monday's Recreation & Parks meeting/discussion to offer feedback on the FY 2014-15 budget. For those of you who were not able to attend, we missed you -- but you still have the opportunity for your voice to be head.

RAP (Rec and Parks) is requesting constituents complete an online survey documenting your budget priorities and suggestions for the department.  You can find the survey here: http://m.laparks.org/survey/#survey Please fill this out, and share this with your friends, neighbors and other members of the community. You can complete this form anytime until December 30th. It is very important that you complete this survey, as it will help inform the budget-making process and also serve as a guide for RAP should certain funding and services be restored.

One thing in particular for which the Councilmember has advocated is more Park Rangers, particularly in Griffith Park, specifically the western area near the Hollywood Sign. If you strongly support more Park Rangers, which I believe most (if not all) of you do, please join us in our efforts by using this survey to communicate your thoughts to RAP. Our office is continuing our advocacy for more Park Rangers but it is also important that the community share their thoughts on the matter as well.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and thank you for all that you do.

Best,

Dan Halden

Hollywood Community Plan Update Voided

In a magnificent victory for Hollywood residents, Superior Court Judge Allan J. Goodman completely repudiated the Hollywood Community Plan Update calling it "unsupported by anything other than wishful thinking". The ruling was scathing. He declared it "fundamentally flawed, and fatally so". He found that "the HCPU, and its accompanying EIR, contain errors of fact and of law that compel granting relief". He ruled that there was a "failure to proceed in the manner required by law", that there was "prejudicial abuse of discretion", "failure to include relevant information" and that "meaningful public review was thwarted by City's pyrrhic rush to final approvals". Could it get any worse? Your BCNA is proud to have played a significant part in this victory. We participated in the lawsuit as one of the three community groups (SaveHollywood.org) that challenged the City's deeply flawed and mega-developer-enabling plan to destroy the beautiful character of Hollywood forever.

Happy Holidays from Hollywood Arts Council

Happy Holidays!

Please consider making a tax-deductible gift to the Hollywood Arts Council.

It's a good investment for so many reasons - here are a few of them...

True Prosperity . . . The arts are fundamental to our humanity. They inspire us-fostering creativity, goodness, and beauty. They help us express our values, build bridges between cultures, and bring us together regardless of ethnicity, religion, or age. When times are tough, the arts are salve for the ache.

Enriched Academic Achievement...Project SOAR (Students Overcoming All Risks) the Hollywood Arts Council's arts education outreach...it's an investment in our future because research shows students with an education rich in the arts have higher GPAs and standardized test scores, lower drop-out rates, and even better attitudes about community service-benefits reaped by students regardless of socio-economic status.

Arts are an Industry . . . Arts organizations are responsible businesses, employers, and consumers. Nonprofit arts organizations generate $166 billion in economic activity annually, supporting 5.7 million jobs and generating nearly $30 billion in government revenue. Investment in the arts supports jobs, generates tax revenues, and advances our creativity-based economy.
