City Sponsored Tourist Van Idea on Hold

Vocal neighbors filled the Transportation Committee chambers at City Hall on Wednesday, August 28 to explain their objections to Tom Labonge's van proposal. The subject is being "held in committee" for studies. We'll let you know how this develops.

Meanwhile, the council office is working with neighborhood leaders to identify boundaries for a broad preferential parking district for Beachwood. The Transportation Committee heard testimony from neighbors that illustrated an overall support of the plan with the condition that the district be inclusive. The idea of making Beachwood a preferential parking district would cause parking on Hollyridge and Rodgerton to become impossible. Leaders are meeting with City staff on September 10 to discuss proposed boundaries for the district. We'll keep you posted.

The sentiment in the room was that of unified support among the neighbors and the various neighborhood group leaders for preferential parking if broadly applied and against the city sending additional vehicles (vans) up Beachwood.

Meanwhile, the lower checkpoint has been discontinued and traffic enforcement continues to monitor and control traffic at the very top of Beachwood on the weekends only.

We remain focused on the issues:

Skyscrapers in the heart of Hollywood - TOO MASSIVE

Building Skyscrapers on Active Earthquake Fault - TOO DANGEROUS

Adding 20,000 to 30,000 car trips per day to the area - TOO MUCH

Ignoring local and State opposition - ARROGANT

Hiding information from the public - CRIMINAL

The only way this will happen is with TEAMWORK.
