Dear Hollywood Resident

If you're receiving this, chances are you agree that this Millennium Hollywood Project is not what Hollywood wants or needs for many reasons. We look forward to meeting you, hearing your ideas on and creating an even greater coalition of leaders as we go forward.

Below, please find URGENT APPEAL. If you could forward this to your friends, family, and associates, this could help inspire donations! If you have not yet sent your donations, see the letter for ways to make that happen.

Urgent Appeal
There is very little time!

Dear friends,

If you aren't yet familiar with the Millennium Project, you should be. Millennium Partners, a New York property investment firm, intends to build twin towers 39 and 35 stories surrounding the Capitol Records Building. Combined, these two will have the equivalent square footage floor space of the Staples Center and L.A. Live combined (that's over one-million sq. ft.).

Aside from the fact that the project may lie directly on top of an active earthquake fault, the effect it will have on the already miserable intersections along Franklin Ave. at Vine, Gower, Cahuenga, Argyle and Beachwood is dramatic. Even at Millennium's ridiculously low projection of 19,000 daily added car trips (the actual daily number is about 30,000), their effect would make these intersections even less tolerable than they are today. They seriously are suggesting that most of the people coming to and leaving their property will travel on either bus, subway or bicycle. Caltrans has stated that this project will cause dangerous congestion at every freeway on/off ramp in the area.  The already miserable commutes on Barham Blvd and Los Feliz Blvd will become unbearable.

How can this happen? Millennium Partners donated large amounts to the campaigns of most of the L.A. City Council, hence, they received a unanimous yes vote on their application to build. It may also help that the President of the City's Planning Commission, Bill Roschen, just happens to be the Architect and Consultant to/for Millennium Partners in regard to this project.

We have to stop these monstrosities and the effect they will have on our already overburdened infrastructure. A number of local civic associations and individuals against the project have funded a portion of the costs and fees of our legal counsel, Robert Silverstein, through the City Council process.  Robert has done amazing things with his research... including discovering that in their maps, Millennium mistakenly (?) placed their project seven football fields from the nearest fault instead of directly over it. He has also been the force behind any TV, radio and print articles you may have seen or heard regarding this project.

Our only hope now is to file a suit against the City and the project but, we have under 2 weeks to get this done.

Our goal is to raise at least $50,000 to get started with filing the lawsuit.  If you live in, work in, commute through or just have an historical appreciation of Hollywood, please donate. All donations of any amount are appreciated.  Our goal right now is to raise as much money as possible in the next week.  We are especially looking for "angels" who would give at least $1,000 each. At a recent City Council meeting the statement was made that if this proposal were made for the middle of Paris, all the Millennium Partners would have been offered a last cigarette and a blindfold. Don't let the power of big money rule the day! We're setting out to prove you can fight City Hall!

The vast majority of those of us involved in trying to stop Millennium are very much for the development of Hollywood! We just want it done in a fashion and design that enhances its surroundings and reflects Hollywood's unique place in California and American history. This project does neither.

We need your help now!  Please click http://stopthemillenniumhollywood.org and generously hit the "Donate" button. You can also send checks made payable to BCNA, 2751 Westshire Dr., Los Angeles, CA 90068 (Write "Stop the Millennium" in the memo field).

Thanks, and please forward this to everyone you think might be interested and/or could help us, and in turn, ask them to forward it to their friends and family. Celebrity juice would also be helpful!

Regards,
