July 4th Preparation - Volunteers Needed
Tourists have been flooding the area recently. This is expected to increase as we enter the summer season. The July 4th weekend will be a very active time in Beachwood Canyon/Hollywoodland!

Hollywoodland Homeowners Association and Beachwood Canyon Neighborhood Association are listening to the deep and valid concerns expressed by the neighbors at the top of Beachwood. Their concerns are public safety related and if not addressed, might impact the ability for emergency response resources to gain access to our community. Check points may be set up by the City for this holiday weekend only! One check point will probably be located in the Village intersection and one up at Hollyridge and Beachwood. Details related to the checkpoints are being ironed out right now. You can travel through the checkpoints easier if you have a pass like the one below. Please download and print this pass out and place it on your dashboard. | | Click on the image to download pdf for your dashboard! | Tourists will be guided to the Observatory for hiking and picture-taking and Hollywood/Highland for a view of the Hollywood Sign. Here's what we can and should do: Extend courtesy to the City employees. If you happen to be baking, gift them with a basket of cookies, fudge, and other munchies. If you have extra water bottles, find a way to share. Make this a family support event. There's no better way to say "Thank you" than to have a child share a piece of fruit and a bottle of water to the hard-working helpers in our neighborhood! HHA and BCNA will be working on basic solutions to this tourist problem but in the meantime, let's try to be patient and show our best, kindest neighborhood faces to all who enter our community.

Millennium Update!
The City Council's Planning and Land Use Management (PLUM) Committee approved the Millennium project and forwarded it to the full City Council for hearing and vote on July 24, 2013. Our attorney, Robert Silverstein, is working diligently to prepare a presentation for City Council.
The fight must continue! Fundraising needs to continue and be redoubled. Make your first or additional donation now at StopTheMillenniumHollywood.org!
Without your political and financial support, there will be no reason to call Hollywood home any longer.
Communities United for Reasonable Development are saying, "Stop The Millennium Hollywood Project". Hollywood is not set up to accommodate 19,000 car trips a day! And, since when do we build 39 and 35 story buildings of 1.1+ million square feet of office, commercial, and living space directly on top of an ACTIVE fault line?
Check out what Los Feliz Ledger says about this issue: http://www.losfelizledger.com/2013/06/millennium-developers-agree-to-reduce-project-heights/
Here's what City Watch says about this: http://www.citywatchla.com/8br-hidden/5302-hollywood-residents-get-the-millennium-shaftAfter hearing our presentation of the damning evidence from the US Geological Survey, California Geological Survey and the two peer-reviewed geological studies showing that the southern strand of the Hollywood Fault is directly under the Millennium Project site, Councilman Englander had this to say: "Regardless of the underlying geological and soil conditions, in fact, these faults and thresholds whether active or inactive in fact pose a significant risk to the entire city of Los Angeles." "But you're pointing to this one particular area. I just wanted to show fault in your study that yeah, there's a true threat but it is everywhere in Los Angeles." Councilman Englander's comments demonstrate a fundamental lack of understanding of the distinction between building to withstand strong ground motions in an earthquake (all buildings in southern California must account for this to varying degrees) vs. building a structure for human occupancy across the trace of an active fault that may be subject to surface displacements of several meters, which of course cannot be allowed. This project is not something that can be allowed to proceed without a much more thorough review of the potential for active faulting at the site.
