On June 6th, shortly after 2 p.m. the Fire Department was called to a crash of a touring helicopter up in Griffith Park. The four persons on board were injured but not fatally. A park ranger succumbed to heat exhaustion in the course of this rescue and had to be airlifted to a nearby hospital. L.A. Times reported that the helicopter went down in a hilly area of Griffith Park crisscrossed by hiking trails. The FAA is investigating. George Abrahams researched the path of this flight using Webtracker: The helicopter flew along Santa Monica coast, then along Brentwood, UCLA, Sunset Strip, Fryman Canyon Park, and circled Universal Studios, across Forest Lawn Drive, zig-zagged by the Hollywood Sign, Canyon Drive, Ferdell, Los Feliz and Hillhurst, and north into Griffith Park - the track stopped at 14:15 (2:15 p.m.).
