On June 6th, shortly after 2 p.m. the Fire Department was called to a crash of a touring helicopter up in Griffith Park. The four persons on board were injured but not fatally. A park ranger succumbed to heat exhaustion in the course of this rescue and had to be airlifted to a nearby hospital. L.A. Times reported that the helicopter went down in a hilly area of Griffith Park crisscrossed by hiking trails. The FAA is investigating.

The helicopter flew along Santa Monica coast, then along Brentwood, UCLA, Sunset Strip, Fryman Canyon Park, and circled Universal Studios, across Forest Lawn Drive, zig-zagged by the Hollywood Sign, Canyon Drive, Ferdell, Los Feliz and Hillhurst, and north into Griffith Park - the track stopped at 14:15 (2:15 p.m.).
