Finish Line Within Sight - Will YOUR Donation Get us to the Finish Line?
Please donate to the legal appeal being organized by StopTheMillenniumHollywood.org to ask the City of Los Angeles to reevaluate their approval of the 1.1 million square foot, 54-story tall twin tower project planned for Vine Street next to and across the street from the Capitol Records building in Hollywood.
The appeal is backed by close to 50 community groups and neighborhood councils surrounding the Hollywood area. This week the Los Feliz Improvement Association voted to oppose the project. Last night, April 23, 2013, the Greater Wilshire Neighborhood Council's Land Use Committee joined with the 3 neighborhood councils closest to the project in voting to oppose it as well and they know over-development!
This appeal is vital, as is the hiring of traffic experts to evaluate and report the impacts of this project on the Hollywood community and greater Los Angeles. The estimated cost is $35,000 to $50,000. So far, neighbors and community leaders/groups have donated approximately $34,000.
The time is very short. According to Planning Department staff, the Determination Letter for both the tract appeals and the City Planning Commission case will go out from the Planning Commission office in the next day or two. To maintain the legal standing necessary to continue the fight against this monstrosity, we need to file an appeal within ten days of the issue date while our longer standing SaveHollywood.org effort to rescind and revise the Hollywood Community Plan winds its way through the courts.
When we were this close to saving Cahuenga Peak, Hugh Hefner jumped in and was celebrated as the hero of the effort to preserve that wonderful ridge line. From many vantage points in the City, that very Peak and the iconic Hollywood sign will be blocked from view by this project's towers.
Who will be our hero(s) this time?
Please go to StopTheMillenniumHollywood.org and donate now. While you're there, please sign up for updates on the progress of this important step in preserving what is left of our historic Hollywood Corridor!
