BCNA Annual Meeting

Monday, February 11, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Beachwood Cafe (Thanks Patti!)

We will have the Council Office reps, our senior lead officer and other special guests to participate in our neighborhood discussion. Updates will be given on our efforts to get a helicopter flight rule in place and the SaveHollywood.org lawsuit to stop the Hollywood Community Plan.

Together, we can build an action plan for 2013!

Our boundaries go from the Hollywood Sign south to Franklin, east to Canyon, and west to Vista Del Mar. If you are not yet a member, please go to our website and click on Membership and please download the Membership form on that page.

For those of you who have paid your 2013 dues (thanks for that!), you will get to decide if the bylaws will be adjusted so that board members serve 3-year terms instead of 2-year terms. You decide!

Millennium Hollywood Project  Hearing Scheduled

Yes, that's the Capitol Records building dwarfed by the proposed Millennium Project. Please attend this first hearing and let the city know how you feel about changing the landscape of Hollywood!

Hillside neighbors will be impacted by this project! You won't be getting an official notice because your home isn't within 500' of this project. Your voice is important at this hearing. Here are the details:

The administrative hearing will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, 9 AM at Los Angeles City Hall, 200 North Spring Street, Room 350, Los Angeles 90012.

The staff contact is Luciralia Ibarra, (213) 978-1378 and/or Luciralia.ibarra@lacity.org

The Deputy Advisory Agency will consider: VTT-71837

Please place the following in the subject line of your letter to Ms. Ibarra:

CPC-2008-3440-ZC-CUB-CU-ZV-HD and CPC-2013-0103-DA

If this project does what its creators want it to, many more people will be drawn into the area. Our emergency response and police are stretched to the limit now serving the needs of the current populace. We understand that water supplies are short. How are we to provide for the needs of the expected new arrivals that a project like this are intended to bring?

Please ask that this project be scaled down to better suit the Hollywood that we know and love.

LaBonge Makes Motion on Parking Meter Issue

In response to recent confusion on the city's policy on inoperable parking meters, Councilmember Tom LaBonge introduced a motion to instruct that parking enforcement officers immediately notify LADOT upon the discovery of broken parking meters. The motion also instructs LADOT to report on the feasibility of instituting a "chalking program" for vehicles parked at inoperable parking meters and/or pay stations. The motion was referred to the Transportation Committee.

We will let you know when this is scheduled so you can attend and share your concerns. The way things stand now, if a parking meter is broken, you can't park there! Since the new meters have been failing, the existing ordinance removes desperately needed parking spaces from our city.

Quote for Late January 2013

"We need to empower our people so they can take more responsibility for their own lives in a world that is ever smaller, where everyone counts. We need a new spirit of community, a sense that we are all in this together..."

Bill Clinton (born 1946);
42nd U.S. President
