ROSH CHODESH SIVAN
During Sivan, the third month on the Jewish calendar, the Jewish people received the 10 commandments at Mount Sinai. The fourth commandment is to remember the Shabbat and keep it holy. Tomchei Shabbos of Los Angeles is an organization that has been lovingly providing essential Shabbat food packages to thousands of needy Jewish families in our community.
Every week, their warehouses come alive with volunteers filling rows of boxes with eggs, milk, fruits, vegetables, challah, wine, candles and everything else a family needs to make Shabbat special. The boxes are then delivered with the outmost discretion and care to the privacy of the recipient. Last Friday, on Rosh Chodesh Sivan, our Elementary students did a beautiful mitzvah and made candles for the recipients of Tomchei Shabbos so that they too can bring in the light of Shabbat. Kol Hakavod to those who volunteered!
