So, plan now to attend, Saturday, October 3, 6 - 11 p.m. at the Forum Conference Center in Fishers.

Mark your calendars now and "be there or be square"!

Is SNSI #1 in Your Heart?

Central Indiana alternative newsweekly, NUVO, asks readers to share their favorite places, organizations and events in the annual "Best Of" issue.

You can help SNSI raise awareness by nominating us for "Best Local NonProfit" by July 10.

If SNSI should receive the most nominations, then it will be considered for the larger competition in its next phase. It's easy and could help us a lot!  The more people who know about SNSI in the community, the more good work we can accomplish.

Thank you!!!

Keep Your Pets Safe From Heartworm Disease This Summer

During the summer months, your pets are most vulnerable to heartworm contracted through mosquito bites.

Heartworm disease is a life threatening disease that affects the animal's heart, lungs and blood vessels. When untreated, heartworm can result in heart and other organ damage and death.

The best way to protect your pet from heartworm is prevention. There are monthly treatments that can be administered that will prevent the parasitic heartworm from living inside your pet. But, all pets should be tested for heartworm via a blood test prior to beginning these prevention treatments.

A positive test for heartworm requires immediate medical treatment. In an effected animal, prevention treatments are unable to stop the growth of the parasite.

When seeking veterinarian care for this and other medical needs for your pets, consider supporting those vets who have joined the SNSI network. A complete list can be found here.

815 Cats and Dogs Adopted in Two-Day Mega Adoption Event

Another successful Indy Mega Adoption Event was held June 20 and 21 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, resulting in 815 animals adopted into forever homes.

Twenty-six animal rescue groups from across the state brought crated and leashed pets of every color, size, age and breed (or mixed-breed) to the event in hopes of finding them a new home.

The event resulted in 331 cats and 484 dogs being adopted in the two-day period.

All animals adopted at the event were spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and had a special $30 adoption fee.

Another Mega Adoption Event is scheduled for October. Check out the hashtag #IndyMega on Twitter and Instagram to see photos of the event and adopted pets in their new homes.
