National Library Week: April 10-16, 2016
Celebrate National Library Week 2016

National Library Week 2016 (April 10-16) is being celebrated at Cobb County libraries with special community events and activities. Join us in putting the contributions of Cobb libraries in the spotlight for the Cobb County community.
 
Sponsored by the American Library Association, National Library Week 2016 is a celebration of the changing roles of the nation's libraries, librarians, and library workers. Award-winning graphic novelist Gene Luen Yang, the 2016-17 National Ambassador for Young People's Literature, is the Honorary Chair for National Library Week. 

It's a  busy week at Cobb County libraries. Activities and programs are planned for author Beverly Cleary's 100th birthday, job searching, history, nature and gardening; and more. 

A highlight of the week is the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the East Marietta Library and Cultural Center, 2051 Lower Roswell Road, on Tuesday at 1 pm. Completion of the Cobb County Library and PARKS project is expected in the summer of 2017.

NLW Half-Off In-House Book Sale

The National Library Week 1/2 Off In-House Book Sale is on at Cobb County libraries as a "Thank You" to library patrons and supporters. The sale runs through Saturday.

Books available for sale to support the purchase of new items include adult hardbacks at the discounted price of $2.50, trade paperbacks at $1.50, mass market at $1, children's hardbacks for $1.50 and children's paperbacks for 50 cents.

National Library Workers Day 

Libraries work because we do!

National Library Workers Day (NLWD) 
is Tuesday, April 12. First celebrated in 2004, NLWD is about recognizing all library workers, including librarians, support staff, and others who make library service possible.

Library Assistant Carolyn Debavadi joined the library staff in 1999. She works at the Periodicals Desk at the Switzer Library in downtown Marietta. She previously worked in the scientific field, including service at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta before starting a new life at the library.

Sibley Library Temporarily Closed

Sibley Library, 1539 South Cobb Drive in Marietta, is temporarily closed for a major renovation and repurposing. The month-long project includes the reconfiguration of library space to improve the delivery of technology training, adult education and workforce development resources. Sibley Library will re-open Monday, May 9.

Tax Prep Assistance 

Volunteers from the AARP Tax-Aide Program for free tax assistance and preparation services designed for low- and moderate-income taxpayers will be at various Cobb County library locations through mid-April. AARP membership is NOT required. This service is available to everyone regardless of age. Special assistance is given to those 60 and older.
